Canadians for Action

Canadians for Action in Darfur is a movement in support of all efforts for the action to stop the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. We aim to create a coalition of all the Darfur initiatives and organizations nation-wide. As a common front, we will be far more effective in lobbying the Canadian government to undertake a leading role to stop the crisis. To achieve this, we are coordinating between all groups and political parties to establish a common detailed demand, which we will be presenting to the House of Commons. To unite the will of the Canadian people in one voice, we have created a petition which is being distributed around the country. The petition will be presented at the same time as our set of demands, demonstrating the strong will of Canadians to stop this catastrophe. We implore you to get your friends and family to sign the petition as well as to raise awareness throughout your community. The Canadian government must know that its citizens will not remain complacent in the face of the biggest humanitarian crisis of the 21st century.

Canadians for Action in Darfur will:

  1. Prepare a petition with 4,000 signatures which will be presented to the Canadian government to demand immediate action in Darfur.
  2. Present at CEGEPS, universities, high schools, churches and community centers about the current situation in Darfur and encourage them to sign the petition and attend the Darfur Day event.
  3. Encourage local and national media to report on and televise the Darfur Day event and all actions of “Canadians for Action in Darfur”
  4. Organize “Darfur Day”, where awareness will be raised and Canadians will demonstrate their concern for the people of Darfur.

This is our chance to show the government what we as Canadians care about. If the Canadian government steps forward and takes a leadership role on the issue, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands ... even millions ... of people in Darfur. This is our opportunity. We can make a difference. As Margaret Mead said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.”
