My Grandfather, Ron, devoted a great deal of his life in making sure the sailors who were lost in the great storm were not forgotten. Please visit the cemetery in Goderich Ontario Canada to see the monument that he helped dedicate for the lost sailors. Thanks for this page. All of the stories he had are now gone with his passing.

Nice web site very informative! Yesterday August 28 2000 they found the steamer Wexford lost during 1913 storm, 33 kilometers south of Goderich Ont, and 11 kilometers off shoare of Lake Huron. It is sitting upright in Lake huron and is in immaculate condi ion! considering under water for 87 years. No mention was made if human remains were aboard. I live in Zurich 5 minutes from Lake Huron and have seen her gloomy November storms, but nothing like the 1913 storm or the 1975 storm the claimed the "Big Fitz" or that matter....

I come from a small town in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. The island has no shortage of ships passing through. However, I don't think we have ever experienced and, god forbid, will ever experience a storm with the magnitude of The Storm of 1913. My maiden being McGean and all, I never realized or could imagine that our family name would be associated with such an historical event, sadly as that may seem. Thank you for the pleasure of viewing you website - very well done.
