Flew in French campaign with the flight defending Rennes. Also, in March 1944 flew P-47s with 61FS/56FG  - USAAF, after the war commanded 306 Squadron. After the war settled in England.

In September 1939, he was captured by invading Russian soldiers and sent to Siberia where he was forced to work in a stone quarry for 8 month. The next 14 month he spent in a gulag. He suffered from many diseases, including temporary blindness. After Germans invaded Russia, via Moscow, he arrived in Scotland on November 13, 1941. In 1948 he emigrated to Australia, becoming a jewelry dealer.

In early 1942 he was posted to 164 squadron, on the extreme north of the British Isles, for disciplinary reasons. He beat up husband of a woman his friend was dating. In 1943, flying mission over France, he had a horrifying experience. His a/c got severely damaged and he tried to bale out. The canopy would open and he was forced to fly his kite back to England and emergency land. After the war he settled in England.

In 315 from Aug 1944 till EOW. CV+bar. Score: 1-0-0. Worth noticing is that while flying Mustang III, he never had a single malfunction in this a/c. Most vividly he remembered a training dog fight during which, his good friend F/Sgt Richter (HB882) was killed. Flying on deck Richter suddenly inverted and crashed at full speed. His a/c buried itself completely in the moist ground. After the war Miroslaw Cempel spent five years in RAF and another five in RCAF, where he was commissioned as a F/Lt. Settled in Canada where he currently resides in Montreal.

In 315 Squadron from Jan 1944 till Nov 1944. KIA. CV+2bars. No score. He was shot down near the Norwegian coast while attacking a German flak ship, at which he made three passes. According to some relations he was rescued by Germans and later died in a hospital. Officially he was lost in the sea. This picture was taken at Grangemouth, 58 OTU, where he served as an instructor before being posted to 315th.

In 315 from Apr 1941 till May 1943 and from Nov 1943 till Sep 1944*. VM, CV+3 bars, DFC. 5 1/2-1-0. He also flew with 113 Eskadra in Sep 1939 and GC III/10 in France campaign in 1940. Soon after the war he took command of 316 Squadron. After PAF was disbanded, he joined RAF where he remained till Sep 1948. Michal Cwynar was an accomplished guitar player. His brother was a bomber pilot and a commander of 300 Squadron. He settled in Scotland and became successful entrepreneur.
*He briefly joined the squadron (for 5 weeks) in May 1945 right after the hostilities ended.

Graduated as an officer from the 11th Class of SPL in Deblin, he took part in Polish campaign flying with the Pursuit Brigade of 123 Eskadra. In France he was assigned to no. 1/145 Varsovie squadron. In England, initially with No. 302 Squadron, then with 315. Killed (Spitfire MkII, P8506) during "Sweep" over France shot down over the channel on August 9th, 1941.

Flew with the 2 Air Regiment of the Polish Air Force in September 1939. Through Rumania and Malta he reached France where he enlisted in the PAF under French command. In July 1940 reached England and on 1 October 1940 posted to No. 308 Squadron. In 1942 flew with 112 "Tiger" Squadron in Africa. Later an instructor in various flying schools and OTUs. After being honorably discharged from the Polish Resettlement Corps in June 1948, settled in England. In sixties he immigrated to Australia, where he died in July 1980.

Died in Wellington in May 1980.

Officially, the reason was a Spitfire written off. Unofficially it was a woman. Member of the Polish Fighting Team attached to 145 Squadron in Africa. He also flew with 601 and 43 Squadrons. He became a CO of the latter. Buried in Creil, France, Communal Cemetery, military section, grave # Z.379v

Requested to to be transferred back to day fighters and after a short stay with the 303, became the first CO of the 315 Sqn. On 21 September, 1941, had to bale out over France a was taken prisoner. The rest of the war spent in Stalag Luft III. Settled first in England then in South Africa, where he died in 1988.

He took off for the last flight on 28 Jan 1990 in Thorpe Hall, UK.

After the war he remained with RAF and worked as a test pilot, then migrated to Canada where he was involved with CF-105 Arrow project. Subsequently he moved to USA to work with Apollo program. He passed away in December 1996.

He damaged the a/c, which force landed near Dublin. Sawiak was wounded by a return fire from the bomber, and later died of his wounds in a hospital.

After his return to England he rejoined the squadron. Later he worked for the British Intelligence (he had a pre-war training in Poland as an counterintelligence agent) and was smuggled several times in and out the occupied France. Some time after the war he returned to Poland where he died. He probably settled in a coastal city of Wejherowo.

After the war returned to Poland where he was promptly arrested by the Communists. He bought a dilapidated truck and scraped for a living. Deceased on July 23rd, 1973 in Warsaw, Poland.

In 1968, as a Group Captain, he became RAF Personnel Deputy Director in the British Ministry of Defense. In 1955 he received AFC and in 1958 the OBE, both times from the hands of Queen Elizabeth II. Deceased in November 2000.

Since 1964 he worked for CIA in Congo. He was an airfield commander and was responsible for the retraining of the Cuban exile pilots hired by the CIA. Reportedly, he also collected some intelligence material on local tribes. He was killed in a car accident when the jeep driven by the local driver overturned.

Flying as a guest (Spitfire IX, LZ990) with No. 315 squadron, he was KIA on 15 May 1943. CBE, VM, CM. Shot down by FW190 over France. He commanded The Pursuit Brigade during the Polish campaign; in France commander of the training center at Lyon. Since arriving in England after the French capitulation, he served as a liaison officer with Fighter Command occasionally taking part in operational sorties over the enemy's territory.

+3bars. Score: 6-2-1. During the Polish campaign he flew as an army cooperation pilot with 3 Regiment of the "Poznan" Army. In England he was posted to the 306 Squadron on 4 Sep 1940. In December that year he suffered serious injuries in Hurricane crash. He returned to the unit but was shot down on 19 may 1941 (Z3065) over the Channel. He bailed out and was rescued. Later with 317 Squadron, again with 306 Squadron as a CO and staff officer at Northolt. In 1944, unofficially he flew P-47s with 61st squadron, 56 FG of the US 8th Air Force. In December 1944 he became commander of the 133 (Polish) Wing. He settled in England.
