Children . . . listen
there's something you must know
we were all once children,
though it seems like long ago
We dreamed your dreams
and feared your fears
we laughed your laughs
and cried your tears
thought we'd always understand.
But our needs change as we grow
and we sometimes forget
what we thought we'd always know
we never thought we would have to say . . .
Forgive us for forgetting,
what it's like to be a child.
We're not tryin' to be mean,
we just forget how it feels.
Forgive us for forgetting,
what it's like to be a child.
We just need some reminding,
and we can recall how it feels.
Yes, we can recall how it feels.
Children, we too pain
mistakes our parents made.
And, yes, we do know how it feels
to be lonely and afraid.
But pressures grow as time goes on,
and we find with regret
that our understanding's gone.
