I would like to add to your comments in the following way:
Cathy said that she saw a TV program where Mr. & Mrs. Brady both "said they are
AGAINST the general ban of handguns; they are rather advocating gun control
(waiting periods, etc.) than gun banning." I have seen similar interviews on
the tube, and even one where Mrs. Brady said "just give us the waiting period,
that is all we want." The ink was not dry on the paper after Mr. Clinton
signed the Brady Bill before I saw an interview on the tube with Mrs. Brady
now saying "that the 'assault gun' is the weapon of choice for the criminals.
We must pass legislation to ban these weapons." To my way of thinking these
two statements by Mrs. Brady are in total conflict with each other.
Cathy also mentions that drive by shootings occur a lot. She is right - they
occur too much so maybe we should eliminate motor vehicles. Or have a 15 day
waiting period before delivery of a new purchase. And swear at each purchase
of fuel that the gasoline will not be used for any criminal activity. Oops -
problem here, Sacramento recently had a bicycle by stabbing. Could it be
that the problem is a small percentage of people have no respect for other
people.
A few years ago NBC ran a special called "GUNS GUNS GUNS" MCed by Connie Chung
and aimed at supporting the passage of the Brady Bill. During the program
there were two statements that had more truth in them than the rest of the
program. These statements derived from interviews with prison inmates and went
something like this; A) The convicts had no problem with additional gun
control legislation because they could have a firearm within hours of being
released if they wanted one. B) The convicts did not want the general
population to have additional firearms because that would make their chosen
profession more hazardous.
It would be nice to believe that if there were no firearms in homes to be
stolen during a burglary the cons mentioned above would be unable to make
their gun purchase. However, that assumption would be false - guns are
smuggled into the country now and sold to those who cannot make legal
purchases. Just like narcotics are currently being smuggled into the country
and sold to those who do not comply with the law. Just as booze was smuggled
into the country during prohibition and sold to those who elected to ignore
the law. Banning anything only stops the law abiding from having that
"anything." It does nothing to prevent the criminal from possessing or using
the substance or object that has been banned.
Please do post my e-mail address Spider. I would be happy to discuss the
subject of gun control with pro or con individuals who may not want their
remarks posted. yjacket@psln.com
Very true about Brady and others - they concentrate on and attack one thing at
a time, and you know they'll step up and go after something else when they're
finished with their current subject. It's "Divide and Conquer", as I've been
saying for years. Of course, Brady was lying about the so-called "assault
weapons" being the "weapon of choice" of criminals - all the "assault weapons"
combined accounted for less than ONE PERCENT of gun related crime. It was a
massive lie and propoganda campaign concocted by the Sugarmans, Bradys, and
the rest of the anti-gun community to further their agenda. And that agenda
DOES include the eventual elimination of firearms from private hands.
Hello Spider. I have recently read your discussion with Cathy and I found it
very interesting.
