The New World Order
[The] conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence - economic, political, even spiritual - is felt in every city, every State House, every office of the Federal government. . . . In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. . . We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted.

Our first objective is to prevent the re-emergence of a new rival. . . . First, the U.S. must show the leadership necessary to establish and protect a new order that holds the promise of convincing potential competitors that they need not aspire to a greater role or pursue a more aggressive posture to protect their legitimate interests.

We must account sufficiently for the interests of the advanced industrial nations to discourage them from challenging our leadership or seeking to overturn the established political and economic order. Finally, we must maintain the mechanism for deterring potential competitors from even aspiring to a larger regional or global role.

. . . . We must seek to prevent the emergence of European-only security arrangements which would undermine NATO.

[What is most important to maintain is:] . . . . the sense that the world order is ultimately backed by the U.S. . . . The U.S. should be postured to act independently when collective action cannot be orchestrated.

- US President and General Dwight D. Eisenhower,
Farewell Address, January 17, 1961

- from a Pentagon document entitled "The Defense Planning Guide," quoted in The New York Times, March 8, 1992 (emphasis added)

U.S. attacks little Yugoslavia
A day of infamy

In a day that will live in infamy, the United States began a brutal military assault on Yugoslavia under cover of darkness on the night of March 24.

All the excuses given by President Bill Clinton cannot conceal the naked truth: the world's biggest nuclear power, a country of some 272 million people, has launched a war against a small, mostly agricultural country of 10 million people on the other side of the globe. - full article , from Workers World

Thousands Demonstrate Against the Criminal Bombing of Iraq
Former Attorney General Ramsey Clark addresses the crowds at Union Square

The bombings of Iraq were justified by and followed a "cooked up" report by Chief "Arms Inspector" and accused CIA agent Richard Butler . . . .

Sources in New York and Washington said Clinton administration officials played a direct role in shaping Butler's text during multiple conversations with him Monday at secure facilities in the U.S. mission to the United Nations. Spokesmen for Butler and the Clinton administration declined to comment on those conversations.
