 1545Battle of Ancrum Moor, wholesale desertion of English army to the Scots.
 1782Battle of Madras. Drawn French and spanish naval engagement.
 1797British capture Trinidad from the French.
 1843Battle of Meeanee. Charge of the 9th Bengal Cavalry turns the tide in a close battle between the British and 30,000 Baluchis. 61-year-old Sir Charles Napier personally led the British with musket in hand.
 1979Chinese army invades Vietnam.
