 1638Battle of Rheinfelden. The day before, the Duke of Saxe-Weimar was caught crossing the Rhine. He extricated himself and crossed the Rhine again, taking the Bavarians from behind and inflicting heavy casualties.
 1918Treaty of Brest-Litovsk between Germany and Russia; Russia withdraws from World War I.
