  241 B.C.Battle of Aegates, Roman ships defeat Carthaginian navy during First Punic War. This defeat cost Carthage its claim to Sicily.
 1705Battle of Marbella. English squadron destroyed French squadron enabling British and Dutch troops to land and lay siege to Barcelona.
 1905Following three weeks of battle and 50,000 casualties, Japanese capture Mukden, a place of little strategic value.
 1939Germany annexes Chechloslovakia.
