 1801British under Abercromby defeated French defenders at Alexandria.
 1945U.S. Third Army under George S. Patton crosses Rhine into Germany marking the end of operation Rhineland. German resistance eliminated west of the Rhine River. Germans sustained 60,000 casualties and 250,000 prisoners against 7,670 Allied soldiers killed.
