 1296Battle of Dnubar. Edward I inflicted 10,000 casualties on the Scots. This victory led to Edward's being proclaimed King of Scotland.
 1522Battle of Bicocca. Swiss-German cavalry charge repulsed by Spanish infantry.
 15651st Spanish settlement in Philippines, Cebu City, founded.
 1650Battle of Carbiesdale. Parlimentarian army defeated Duke of Montrose. Montrose was captured soon thereafter.
 1808Battle of Revolax. Swedes surprised Russian column of 4,000 men, only 1,000 survived.
 1864Battle of Fate Pah. British attack Maori stronghold and are repulsed, but Maoris evacuate on the following day.
 1897Grant's Tomb (famed of song & legend) is dedicated.
