 1455First Battle of Saint Albans. Opening battle in the Wars of the Roses.
 1707Battle of Stollhofen. French storm the supposedly impregnable Lines of Stollhofen capturing 50 guns.
 1794Battle of Tournai. The village of Pont-a-Chin changed hands four times during the day but ultimately the French were forced to flee.
 1858Battle of Gaulauli. British route rebel forces during the Indian Mutiny.
 1915Italy joins Allied powers.
