 1745Battle of Hohenfriedeberg. Frederick the Great surprised Saxons in their camp and routed them. He then turned on the nearby Austrians and beat them too.
 1798Battle of Ballymore, Irish rebels attack and slaughter British troops marching to Enniscorthy.
 1864Battle of Chickahominy. In his memoirs, U.S. Grant described this as the only attack he wished he had never ordered.
