 1718Battle of Cape Passero. Admiral Sir George Byng destroyed or captured 15 Spanish ships in a running fight off Cape Passero, Sicily.
 1777Battle of Bennington. Hessian mercenaries attempt to seize American supply depot but were themselves surrounded and forced to surrender.
