British Heavy Assault Tank, Tortoise (A39)

This 87 ton monster was designed in 1942 to have armor impervious to any known German anti-tank gun. It sports the largest gun fitted to any British AFV of 1939-1945 design. One piece cast superstructure, and twin Besa MG for AA defence (not mounted in the view above).
Trials conducted after the war showed it to be too slow, too large and too dificult to transport. The first prototype was not delivered until August 1945.
         This vehicle never saw combat.
