At first blush, the Advanced Squad Leader To Hit table would seem easier to deal with
since it's substantially smaller than the IFT, but the table
itself is complex and does not lend itself to quick analysis.
The basic To Hit Table is shown above. Which number is used (black or red) is normally dependant on the nationality of the firer and year of the particular scenario. (This is due to both the quality of optics used and, in the case of American ordinance, the ammunition quality.)

There are oodles of additional modifiers that may or may not apply to any single shot. In addition to leadership, there are modifiers for rotating the gun before firing, gun caliber, ammunition, barrel length, moving targets, target size, etc. Applying the modifiers specific to the ordinance itself -- caliber and barrel length and ammunition type (APCR/APDS) -- we arrive at The Great Big Honkin' To Hit Table. |
