"Chakotay's Lucky Valentine's Day" 'By; Captain_Crystal' Summery; Someone is leaving Valentine's gifts for Kathryn. Can Chakotay figure out who it is and reprimand him for tryin to take his girl? J/C Disclaimer; Paramount rules over all they see. We own nothing. A very angry, auburn haired, woman waltzed down the corridor at a very fast pace. She groaned at every one that she saw. She hated the upcoming celebration that had every one on her ship smiling. Kathryn Janeway wanted to kill the small Talaxian who had insisted upon a Valentine's Day party. The party only succeeded making her mourn over the recent loss of her fiance, Mark. It had been hard to lose Mark. Kathryn had always kept the slightest hope that he would wait for her, but deep down in her heart, she knew that there was no hope. After the incident with the Hirogen, they received letters from home. She received two letters. One from her family, and one from Mark. The second letter came as a shock to Kathryn. She was not prepared for the surprise of Mark's marriage to Julie. Kathryn had never met Julie, but figured that if she made Mark happy that she should be happy for them both. Who would be happy for her? Her question was partially answered with the beautiful bouquet of roses out side of her door. The roses had been neatly placed with precision leaning on the door with the tag clearly visible. The tag read; 'To Kathryn; The love of my life. These roses are only a tenth as sweet as you! Love, Your Secret Admirer' Kathryn read the tag with her mouth hanging open. *Who would have the nerve to leave roses outside of the Captain's door? Did someone on this ship really love her? Was this a fluke? Who would have the audacity to do such a thing in public?* The name hit her like a ton of bricks. *Chakotay. Of course it was Chakotay. He has loved me for years.* Her face had softened somewhat as she realized who it was, but the 'Command Mask' returned as she remembered how many protocols he was breaking. Kathryn decided to REALLY yell at him this time. Telling her was enough and she had let it go, but this was unacceptable. He was going to be punished for this. She didn't really want to punish him for this because it was really sweet for him to leave roses outside her door. Kathryn decided she was going to yell at him, put him in the brig, and then send him a 'Thank You' note. She was about to put her plan in motion. Kathryn walked out of her door and nearly stepped on a heart shaped box of chocolates. She read the tag; 'My Dearest Kathryn, I see that you have received my bundle of roses. I assure you that they are not replicated, I retrieved them for the Aroponics Bay myself. I hope you enjoy the Chocolate Truffles that I made you. Love, S A' Kathryn grinned again. He left her more. She opened her comm line, and put an angry tone in her voice. "Janeway to Chakotay, report to my ready room. Now." *Oh boy. Kathryn is mad at me again. I wonder what I did this time. I was just getting ready to ask her to be my date for the Valentine's Day dance. Oh well.* Chakotay marched into Captain Janeway's Ready Room. Only to find it empty, and direct orders to report to her quarters. He followed her orders as usual. He approached her door and rang the bell. 'Enter,' he heard from inside. He walked in. "Captain, you wanted to see me?" "Yes, Commander. Please sit down. Can I get you some tea?" "Yes. Thank you," Chakotay said curious to this unusual kindness compared her tone of voice five minutes ago. She returned with his tea and sat just within his personal space. "I was curious as to whether you think that we should follow our current course or if we should detour to see an unusual nebula." "I know that this is not what it appears to be and I demand to know what is going on." "Demand? Demand! How dare you demand to know anything! I am in command and I will decide whether you need to know anything or not!" "Kathryn! I just want to know if you are alright. The crew are getting worried. You seem upset." "Upset! You would be too, if you had a first officer who was a secret admirer! You leave me candy and flowers and you don't expect me to react!" "Kathryn! If you will shut up and listen to me I will tell you that I haven't left you anything!" "Did you just tell me to shut up?"She yelled angrily. "Kathryn, I didn't mean it that way. I just wanted you to listen to me." Kathryn bit her lower lip and sighed. She pointed to the door. "Get out. Get out! Get out before I throw you in the brig!" Chakotay wanted her to know that he didn't ever leave any flowers for her. "Kathryn!" he said as he clamped his hand over her mouth to quiet her. "I didn't leave you anything. Ok? I want to find out who did, because it was inappropriate. I would never do that in public. It wasn't me!" Chakotay sighed. "I am going to move my hand now. Are you going to yell at me or try to hit me?" Kathryn shook her head no. "Are you going to scream for help?" Again no. Chakotay released Kathryn and true to her word, she didn't scream. "I am sorry, Chakotay. I jumped to conclusions. I apologize." "Accepted. Now, can I see this note? I want this person to be punished for taking my ideas." Kathryn chuckled and went to her closet to retrieve the flowers and candy. Chakotay read the notes carefully. "If this person got the flowers from the Aroponics Bay then the computer will be able to tell us who has been there." "Good idea." "Computer?" '**' "Who has been in the Aroponics Bay since 0700 Yesterday?" "Crewman Kes, Ensign Wildman, Ensign Kim, The Doctor, and Lieutenant Jennifer Delaney." "Computer, did anyone come into the Bay and leave with flowers?" "Affirmative." "Who?" "Ensign Kim and The Doctor." "What kind of flowers did each have?" "Ensign Kim left with twelve roses. The Doctor left with twelve Tulips." Kathryn and Chakotay looked at each other and mouthed 'tulips?' in disbelief. "It's Harry. My flowers were roses. Twelve red roses." "I am going to have a long chat with Harry about this." Chakotay said and Kathryn chuckled. "I want to kill him myself, if you don't mind." "I want to because he's trying to steal my girl." "Your girl?" "Not yet. But I hope you will be when we get home." "Always. Now, go talk to Harry!" Chakotay left. Harry was pacing his quarters. 'How did Tom talk me into this!' he thought. ' I have had urges to see them together too, but It shouldn't have gone this far.' His thoughts were interrupted by his door chime. *Bee-Boop.* "Come in." Chakotay walked in and Harry stood at attention. "At ease, Ensign. I just want to chat." "What do you want to talk about, sir." "Call me Chakotay. We are off duty. I want to talk about the Captain." Harry gulped. Chakotay knew and Harry knew it. "Alright. What about her?" "She has been receiving anonymous gifts of flowers and candy. Do you know anything about that?" "Yes, I do. I put the flowers and the Truffles on her doorstep." "May I ask why you are trying to take my girl?" "I thought that she would assume that you gave them to her and that you would get together with her. That was my intention sir." "Ok. Ensign, your actions resulted in the blame of crimes not permitting on a fellow officer, Not to mention getting me into one of the worst fight with Kathryn in my life, and lastly, your plan worked." Harry didn't catch the last sentence. "I will accept my punishment with dignity." "Harry?" "Yes?" "I said it worked. She has told me that she feels something for me. More or less.' "She did?" "Yes, she did." "That's great! I'm sorry for the mishap. It wasn't supposed to happen that way." "I understand Harry. And I will make sure that Kathryn understands too. Goodnight, Harry." "Night Commander. Pleasant dreams of the Captain." Harry threw in as Chakotay left. Chakotay walked down the corridor and thought on how to say Harry's reasoning for his actions. He walked straight to her door and rang the chime. No answer. He rang it again. No answer. "Computer, locate Kathryn Janeway." "(Kathryn Janeway is in her quarters.)" Chakotay entered his clearance code and unlocked the door. He walked inside and heard someone singing. It was Kathryn. He also heard water running. He put his hand to his forehead when he realized that he had barged in on her shower. He was turning to leave when he heard the water stop running and the door swish open to reveal a captain dressed only in a towel. "Chakotay! What are you doing here?" she asked pulling her towel up a little higher. "You didn't answer your door chime and I thought something was wrong. So I came in. I was just leaving." "Wait! Chakotay don't go. If you will wait for me in the living room, I will be out of here in five minutes." She really wanted him to stay. "Alright, I'm counting," he said playfully. He walked into the living room and brought the lovely vision of his Captain in a towel back into his mind for analysis. The towel was short, showing a lot of her legs. Her face was flushed from the heat of her shower. He had to admit that she looked great in that moment he saw her. Kathryn walked out of her bedroom dressed in white slacks and a pale green blouse. Her hair was a mess, but she would have to comb it as he was talking to her. She reached for her brush, but it was not in it's usual place. Kathryn glanced around and saw that he had it. "I didn't think you would need a brush for your crop cut," she said with a grin. "I'm sorry. I just picked it up,"he said handing it to her. "Oh, that's alright. So, what did Harry say?" she said running her bush through her thick hair. "You won't believe it. He did it to make you assume it was me who sent them to you. He wanted us to get together, believe it or not." She was staring at him with her mouth open. She burst out laughing. "That has got to be one of the stupidest things that they have ever done. I know the crew want us to be more than friends, but they all know the rules." "The rules? I thought you were going to be my girl." "Yeah, on Earth. But we're on Voyager right now." "Does it matter that I don't want to wait?" "Not really. I don't want to wait either, but I can't break the rules. You know that." "What if I found a way that you could be with me and not get into any trouble with Starfleet. Would you agree then?" "Of course, but we both know that there is no way." "I think that there might be," he said as he walked out of the door, leaving a very confused Kathryn behind. Chakotay walked straight to his quarters and began his tedious research. He was bound and determined to find a way to have a relationship with her without breaking the rules. "Computer, bring up the 'Starfleet Protocol Rule book'." '**' the computer responded and immediately retrieved the desired information. Chakotay scanned the topics and punched in the code for command relationships. The computer automatically read the passage in question. ' Starfleet Command Protocol Twenty-four Alpha A. In the event a captain wishes to pursue a relationship with someone under or equal to his or her command status, he or she must resign his or her commission and continue as a civilian' "Computer, is there a protocol exception?" ' Affirmative. Starfleet Command Protocol Twenty-four Alpha A, subsection 12. In the event that a Starfleet captain is engaged to be married or married already, he or she is permitted to engage in a relationship." "Yes!" Then it dawned on him. 'The protocol said that we would have to be married. Kathryn is gonna love this.' He quickly downloaded the information onto a padd and walked slowly but surely to Tuvok's quarters to verify that his findings were real. He slowly pushed the chime for his door. He heard a muffled, 'Enter.' He walked inside. "Commander, I was not aware that you were arriving tonight. I apologize for my," Chakotay cut off the rest of his sentence. "I know that it is a little late to be expecting company. I'm the one who ought to be apologizing." "Not necessary. What do you require, Commander?" " I was looking at a way to," he paused. "Continue, Commander." "Looking for a way to have a relationship with Kathryn. I think I found one, but I wanted to verify it." He handed the PADD to Tuvok. Tuvok studied it for a moment then arched an eyebrow. "Commander, you are aware that the protocol exception that you have downloaded requires the couple to be engaged or married, correct?" "Yes Tuvok. I know, Kathryn is gonna love this," Chakotay said sarcastically. "I fail to see how the Captain would be pleased at such an unexpected twist." "It's called sarcasm, Tuvok." "I am aware of what sarcasm is Commander, but I fail to see its value." "Never mind, Tuvok. Is this plausible in our current situation?" "You would like to know if you may ask Captain Janeway to marry you without breaking protocol, then my answer is yes. If she accepts, there will be no breach in protocol." "Oh, gods, you are a lifesaver, Tuvok. I'm going to ask her Tomorrow. Wish me luck." "Luck?" "A figure of speech." "Alright, I wish you luck." "Thanks," Chakotay replied as he turned on his heel and waltzed out the door, to his quarters. Once there, he began to examine the available models and styles of wedding bands. The one he chose was slightly out of his budget, so he called Harry. "Chakotay to Kim." "Kim here Commander." "Harry, may I borrow thirty replicator rations from you?" "What for?" "The 'you-know-what.'" "Oh sure. They are being transferred right now. So, when are you going to ask her?" "In the morning. This is either going to make me, or break me." "Understood. Good luck. Kim out." As soon as the rations were retrieved, he walked to his replicator and ordered an engagement ring. The ring was gold and silver twisted together to make a swirl effect, there was a large blue sapphire in the center, and two small diamonds on the side of the sapphire. 'I hope she likes this,' he thought. The next morning, Chakotay walked onto the Bridge clutching two things in his hand. He held a tiny silver box and a pad containing the Protocol Rule book. He received a grin from Harry and a curt nod from Tuvok. Suddenly, Mr. Paris made it known that he knew too. "Oh, Commander, good luck. And secondly, when she kills you, can I be first officer?" he said sarcastically. "Alright, who told Dr. Dolittle?" "I did, Commander. It was logical to assume that since you told everyone else on the bridge that it would be acceptable to explain the situation to Mr. Paris. I apologize for my obvious error." "Accepted Mr. Tuvok. Please everyone, if she doesn't accept, don't tell the crew. Thanks." He sighed and stood up. He walked confidently to the door and rang the chime. 'Come in, Chakotay.' He walked in and hid the tiny box. "Oh, another report? I must be a human computer. I can't stand it. No more work!" she joked. "Just read this last report and you can be finished for the day." "Game point, you win. Let me see." He handed her the PADD and watched her expression closely. Her face turned from amusement to wonder to fear. "What do you want from me?" she asked quietly. "I want you to say yes," as he said this, he fell to one knee and pulled the silver box into view. He heard her gasp followed by a slow thud as she fainted. Chakotay sighed and called the bridge. "Chakotay to the Bridge." "Paris here, Sir." "Tom, grab a Med kit and come in here. Kathryn fainted." "Aye sir," He said with a chuckle. Tom was in the Ready Room within seconds. "Want me to revive her?" "No Duh, Stupid. Yes I want her awake." "Aye sir," he woke Kathryn and she shook with a start. "Chakotay, did what I think just happened happen?" "That would be?" "Did you ask me to.." "Yes Kathryn, I did. Do you accept." "Uh, I don't know. This is all so sudden. I mean, you ask me with Paris in the room. This will be all over the ship in twenty minutes." "Kathryn, I will make you a deal. If you accept, Great. If you don't, I will walk out of here and never bring anything up again about a relationship. Yes or no?" " If I must.." "You must." "I.... I .... I ..... I accept. I will marry you." It took a few minutes to register what she had said. 'I am going to get married, to Kathryn. Shouldn't I be fainting or something?' "Are you alright, Commander?" "Yes, Kathryn. I guess I am a little shocked." "You are shocked, You come barreling in here and ask me to marry you. and you are the one that is shocked?" "I am sorry, I didn't take your feelings into account. In all aspects, you are the one who should be shocked," Neither one of the two shocked senior officers noticed that Tom Paris had left the room. Chakotay picked up the small ring that had long been forgotten. She let out a small gasp as he slipped the small jeweled ring on her finger. She stared at it thinking how natural it looked sitting there. Almost as if her finger was designed to wear this one particular ring. Kathryn tore her gaze away from her engagement ring to glance at her fiancee. "It's beautiful, Chakotay. How did you afford it? Isn't it a little out of your price range?" "Let's just say I owe Harry a favor." Kathryn giggled at his comment. 'Paris to the Ready Room. May I make an announcement now? This is killing me.' "Yes, Mr. Paris. We don't mind if you tell everyone now. Right, Fiancee?" "Right." The End.... Not A chance! Sequel coming soon! Send feedback please! I love it! |
