Llia's Diary
If youve clicked on this section and are hoping to find an everquest stratergy guide or quest help them im afraid you will be disappointed as i am one of those dreaded newbies!  I have only
been playing the game a short while - but this is the diary of my character LLIA's journey.

I hope you enjoy the screenshots i have taken, for all of my friends from phantasy star
online it will be nice for you to see the online game im now playing and for all of you seasoned
eq players you can laugh at how far i "havent" come!

If youve read any of the message board topics then your proberly wondering why im dedicating
a section to this game when i pretty much slagged it at first, but its now sucked me in.  Although
im not entirely sure why as compared to pso the combat system is just turn based with no
combos to master, but maybe thats because im a Warrior.  Also the quests are rather baffling when
last night i killed 100 darkweed snakes only to find the darkweed bile comes from a rattle snake -
hmmm go figure!  But i had a mad sense of achievement when i finally finished my first quest  :)
Even if the bracer that id spent so long aquiring was not as good as the one i had bought..

I havent ventured far yet, furthest i have been is Oasis where i died straight away and then again
retreiving my corpse so at the moment im hanging around ec area until i find some good players
to venture out with.

Im on the Venril Sathir server so if you see me around give me a shout and say hi!!!

Was accepted into the New Dawn Ascended
Guild. Thanks to Azzad who recommended me
and i look forward to meeting many of the
members to adventure together. I applied to
them because they seem like a sound guild but
also seem to have the emphasis on having fun,
rather than other guild forums i have visited who seem to have forgotton that online gaming
is nothing without having good friends to play
with and spend their time boasting and bickering.

Im now know as Llia Darkdestiny!

Just as hard to find a surname as first name

Finally my copy of 'Plains of Power' came in, picked it up and hurried home to install it!  Easy i thought
even to someone who is not very computer literate!  How wrong could i be.  Installing the game was
no problem and eagerly went online to find my character has taken male homone treatment over night.
Maybe its the female in me but she is far too butch looking also the game didnt seem to flow as well as
before.  So off i trotted to take a look in my program files to find that ruins are in one and plains in another.

Ok keep calm i thought, np, so i rang the ubi soft
support line and was passed around  as noone seemed
to know what the problem is.  Eventually i was put on
to an "EQ" expert who gave different advice, then
added "thats the best i can tell you but theres a chance
you could loose your characters"!  So i passed on
that one.

The next morning i rang another number to chat to a
sony "EQ" expert.  I was told to drag and drop all the
files into one and when i asked if i shud put ruins into
POP or POP into ruins i was told:
Plains of power muscle woman
"If you cannot even understand the simple drag and drop action. then i suggest that you have no hope of
ever installing games correctly."
"ummmmmm (I butted in) I just want to know which file goes into which please?".
"Well its not hard is it.  I suggest to you that you visit Eqloft.com for information."  (Slams phone down)

So if you fancy having abit of abuse thrown at you ring the lovely expert on 0870-739-7681 and if your
not as sensitive as me you can even throw some back.

So after installing, reinstalling, moving files into one folder (still didnt work) Im now just going to play on
POP with my butch Llia.  Pretty fed up also as last night i grouped with a healer, i pulled some crocs and
as i was loosing hp i was yelling at him like mad!  After id died and lost a  level he said "oh so sorry i was
watching the tv!".

During my first week playing EQ i sat watching a guild raid an Orc Camp in ecommons.  One of the
members pulled too many before the others were ready and some of them died.  After they came back to
the camp there was a huge row and they totally humiliated the player on /shout mode.  Giving out his
name and saying what a poor team player he was, as i sat listening in disbelief many of the other players in
the zone were laughing and taking the piss out of him on screen.  As a result of that they disbanded the
poor guy.  Now as a new player myself i obviously do things wrong myself and welcome ppl giving me
advice on why and how i went wrong as long as its constructive.  I also seem to spend most of my time
asking questions, which i beleive you need to else youll never learn.  I told someone this story when i was
on the Marr server and he sided with them saying 'Dying is a serious business'.  Which i found out
last night.
Travelled to North Karana which is vast.  I had no idea where i was
heading as ive been going to POK popping in ports, then hurrying
back to freeport!   We all died whilst fighting a Griffin because all
his family decided to join the party.  I appeared back ar Qeynos
whilst the rest of my team has re-appeared in another zone.  Id had
auto-follow on so had no idea of the way we had headed.  So after
running round abit i sat down pathetically considering my next move
until a cleric offered to reserect me (this was a new one to me).
So i appeared back in N.Karana grabbed the items from my corpse
and started running, getting more and more lost whilst trying to out-
the baddies.  Luckily an NDA member map read me the way back to Geynos, but for the cleric and the
map reader i dont think i would ever of found it!

This is why im so wary of venturing off.  Its the hardest aspect of the game for me as i have totally no
sense of direction.  I have no problem with the combat as compared to Phantasy star online there are no
Combination moves to master and in pso it doesnt tell you your chances of beating the mob, that just
comes with gaming experience.  Plus in PSO you are not totally reliant on healers, as a warrior im pulling
and taunting them away so i depend on a reliable healer, whilst on PSO you can buy trimates etc. to heal
yourself!  So my biggest difficulty is moving around.

Im sure in time it will come together, as im a whizz round freeport :)  but its very frustrating to me when
im looking forward to venturing out.  Hopefully it will only be a short time before i can read back on
this, laugh at myself and think 'What a wimp'.  But without the cleric and guild last night i think i would
of quit the game today.

Ventured over to Sol A with Bluto and some people who
seemed to know what they were doing.  They had the game
plan sorted out before we ventured in (or so i thought!).

I thought i was spose to be pulling towards the zone line,
before they went running in in a cloud of dust.  We died
very quickly but luckily was still near the entrance so was
rezed pretty quick.  The next time we died (about 5 minutes
later)  they just couldnt drag our corpses out and we sat in
pok for about an hr twidling our thumbs until a trusty nda

member came to our rescue, else i think we would of still been sitting there now!  As soon as it was
polite to do so, Bluto and i disbanded and had to find our way back over Lavastorm Mountains.  Which
was another nightmare, as if you know me youll know i only have to turn a couple of lefts and im lost!
Im sure sony has a conspiracy on me as i can come out of a port, turn back round and its disappeared :)
Or maybe its my total lack of sense of direction.  Going into "Dark Faltz" for the first time on phantasy
star online was nerve wracking but nothing compared to being lost in those mountains, especially when
told "whatever you do dont fall in the lava" Ouch!  When we finally found our way through we got abit
of a battering from the guards in Necktulos Forest.  Total waste of a night and i wont be venturing there
again till im a higher lvl and the lava has all dried up!
The next night we went through The Gorge of King Xorbb,
sounds like something out of flash gordon and onto
HighKeep.

I really enjoyed it here.  Very good experience, up to lvl
26 now and you cant really get lost.  Well take that back
because i went up the stairs and guess what, when i tried
to back track sony had moved the stairs (yet again).

Also no Lava around and the nice helpful guards are just

up the stairs for a saftey net!  So i was impressed with
this area, actually felt quite safe here so i could be here for
the next few months!  Feeling more confident in the game
now anyway, even with the getting lost problem as although
i panic at the time, obviously i find my way eventually.  Its
just getting used to the scale of the game.  My head is still
abit in PSO mode, wishing i could just drop a pipe up and
teleport to the lobby.  Its hard to adapt from playing in lvls
to playing out in a vast world and my only fear is loosing my
corpse in an unknown area, although ive done that a few
times anyway and always get it back pretty quickly.

Finished the quest for the parts of the Crafted Armour I
needed.  Llia is a force to be reckoned with now :)

But wow those gems are expensive, luckily ive got a friend
who had some cash in the bank to help me out or else id be
looting for months to get the required amount.

|I wont mention his name or else everyone will be going to
him for a loan!
This is my new character "Cathi".  Shes a high-elf magician.

I love playing Llia but sometimes playing a warrior gets abit
boring (but i suppose thats the same for all classes).  As I
shoot my arrows and basically bash things around Ive been
enviously watching people casting cool spells and having a
little pet!  So here I am with my pet, casting a low level spell
like a kid with a new toy :)

Only thing is I keep forgetting Im not as strong as Llia and
dying fighting mobs that Llia would of been able to kill at
level 6!

Im now a full member of 'New Dawn Ascended' and Llia is
level 37 so is able to group with most of the members which
makes alot of difference as theres less chance of sitting in POK
with LFG over your head which can get very boring.

Im trying to get my fletching skill up.  It seems to go up very
slowly, about one point every 20 attempts  at the moment so
is pretty draining on the cash flow.  Looking at my skills its abit
worrying that some are low, 2h blunt is 0 as ive never owned a
2h blunt weapon so lets hope i dont find a fantastic 2h blunt
item now!
On my way to becoming an
alcoholic though which is an
achievement.  But by far the
most exciting skill to practise
must be fishing.  Here i am with
my little rod catching rusty
daggers (if im lucky).  Not really how this skill comes in
useful but im sure there must be
a reason!  It passes the time.

The Legacy of Ykesha was downloaded.  The first downloadable
expansion for everquest.  Main features of it are the new "froglok"
race, expanded bank capacity, enhanced looking for group tool, NPC
journal, charm slots, cartography system, new spells, guild
management tool and new zones.

Here is my froglok
"Lleanda", a Shaman.
Ventured over to the new zone with llia (lvl 40) and a lvl 45 druid but the mobs there were very strong.  So I either need
to wait and form a larger group or gain a few levels before
venturing over there again.

I was impressed with the new expansion and the frogs are
good fun, it has some nice features and is pretty good
value for money in my opinion.
3rd March

Wow doesnt time fly, 3 months playing everquest now and still
learning the game but i dont consider myself a newbie anymore.
I think the time you realise youre no longer a newbie is when you
start recognising other peoples mistakes.  I doubt that anyone who
started reading from the top of this section has actiually stayed
with me this far!  But never mind, if you have let me know as i
like to hear any feedback and comments you may have on my
lowly opinions :)
The picture above was taken in "The hole" last night with NDA members.  This is a high level area as all
the mobs conned red to me but it was a blast.  This has to be the worst place ive had to get to though.
We had to swim through tunnels and little gaps to get here which i found very hard and shouted james out
(my son) who took over to swim me through!  Hes a natural at the game, he helps me with directions and
I help him out with plat as people have helped me and hes a lvl 15 warrior in <Ambassadors of Truth>,
which from what ive seen, they seem to be a friendly guild.  Luckily at the end of the session we were
able to get ported out (thank god for druids) so i had no need to stress about being stuck in there forever.

Looting
Lots of debate seems to go on about the way to loot and its usually with the same people all the time.
If there is just a couple of us in a group i prefer to just take it in turns but in full groups i much prefer to
have a ML.  If theres 6 ppl alpha looting i can never remember my turn anyway and someone always ends
up prompting everyone which always seems abit playgroundish to me.  The ppl who dont like having a ML
make a case that they may loose out on items, but i cant understand why the item that is looted is not just
either given to the person who needs it most or sold to split the plat.  I really couldnt care if someone loots
a rare gem, unless ive been looking for that gem, and then i would ask if I could have it!  Ive met a few
ppl who are obsessed with getting their correct split and seem more worried about the loot than having a
good time playing the game.  As long as they have auto on or there is a ML im just happy to be in a friendly
group.  But i suppose everyone has their own opinions on looting, but id just like to be able to tell a few
"certain people" to chill out.

Ive only ever left a group once over looting issues.  I was playing "Cathi" my mage at an orc camp and so
was sitting in the background medding between kills so didnt have a chance to loot, which wasnt a problem
until I realised that one guy was diving in at all of the mobs corpses and didnt have auto on.  When i
confronted him his explanation was "I need the loot as this is a new char for me"!.  Unreal.  It wasnt such
a big deal for me as id given her some plat for spells from "Llia" but the other team members were true
newbies so I dont even think that they had noticed!.

Meet my necromancer "Elie".  I am putting my
froglok "Lleanda" into retirement for awhile as I
dont really enjoy playing her too much.  Im enjoying
Elie as Im learning fear killing, which is very cool
enabling me to go for tougher mobs whilst soloing so
I expect to be able to level her faster than my other
characters.

I play "Cathi" or "Elie" if there is noone around in the
evening or if i have spare time during the day and play "Llia" during the evenings when most of the NDA members are on.
