The country separated itself from it solely neighbor, HAITI in 1844. It's been one of the most solid democracies in the world since 1966.

	AIRLINES All major U.S. airlines such as American, Delta, Continental have daily flights to the DR and many European airlines like Iberia, Lufthansa, and Air France also. During the winter season (November to April) you are allow to bring only two suitcases and a hand bag per person. Golf bags should be considered as normal cargo luggage. DOCUMENTS U.S. citizens can enter into the Dominican Republic with a “Tourist Card” brought in the airports or a passport. It will cost you 10 dollars and it’s available for only three months. You’ll need to pay a “Departure Tax” of $20 per person, in U.S. currency, as soon as you pass the Migration booths. CURRENCY The local currency is called “Pesos”-roughly 33 to 1 in local banks. Although they are in colors, with green only for the 10-peso bill, and coins of one, 5, 10 and 25 pesos are yellow, the money is divided the same than in the U.S. You can use all credit/cash/debit cards the same than in the U.S. though. ATMs and the like. They are available all around the country. If you are going to stay in a beach resort, it’s advisable to check from your country all credit card details. Also, we suggest bringing some cash with you. Tipping hotel personnel and caddies, apart from normal fees, is well received and usually well earned. You can change U.S. dollar to Dominican Pesos in nearby banks-if available-or gift shops if you want, but remember it could be as low as 30 or less. AIRPORTS The Dominican Republic has 5 major international airports: the oldest and the biggest is located in the South coast, 20 Miles East Santo Domingo. An international private company manages this modern airport so you won’t have any problems. Also, the PUNTA CANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT in Punta Cana, 200 Kilometers East Santo Domingo. It manages 60% of the tourist flights in the DR.
