A Report on Color Crystal

Introduction

     Color Crystal is the source of all color in the Universe. Its use is the job of Rainbow Brite and the Color Kids. This report summarizes knowledge to date of Color Crystal and the Starsprinkles, and will be updated as warranted.

1. Locations

     Color Crystal has been found on only two planets to date: Rainbowland and Spectra.
     Huge natural deposits exist in the mountains on Rainbowland near the Color Castle; so huge that to date only a single mine has been utilized. As a mineralogical survey of the entire planet has not yet been made, it is not known if it occurs elsewhere.
     While rare, it is likely to occur on other planets in the Universe. Planets where it does NOT occur include: Earth, the Princess’ world, the Prison Planet, and Wajah’s homeworld.
     The vegetation on Rainbowland is much brighter than on other planets, and I hypothesize that this might be a useful marker for locating Color Crystal deposits.

2. General

     Color Crystal is found in a gray matrix mineral, with single-color veins running in parallel through it. Seven varieties are known; named for their colors. They are: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. The size of the veins in proportion to each other is exactly the same as the color’s proportions to the other colors in the rainbow.
     Diamond can also be found in the Color Cave, and most of Spectra is diamond. The exact relationship between Color Crystal and diamond is not known.
     A strong connection between water and Color Crystal is also observed, but again, the exact nature of the relationship has not been discovered. It is known that Color Crystal will color water temporarily without activating the transformation from solid to energy. Disturbing the water disrupts the color.

3. Mineralogical

     Color Crystal has a hardness of about 3 on the Mohs Scale. A weight of more than 100 pounds will crush it. The crystals are the only known solid with a pentagonal (five-sided) shape, and a sharp enough blow will fracture it into nearly-identical flat five-pointed star shaped shards known as Starsprinkles.          For use in activating color, Starsprinkles are the most efficient shape. The remaining irregular shards are, however, still useful in supplying the Color Console to maintain the colors.
     The crystal’s readiness to transform directly from solid to energy has made chemical analysis impossible, since exposure to an energy field of the correct strength will trigger the transformation, and exposure to active chemicals does the same thing. Passive spectral analysis gives results that are not understood. No radiation or subatomic particles are released in the transformation, so no health hazard exists.
     It has been determined that the efficiency of the transformation is about 99.95%, varying slightly with the color of the crystal; violet the most efficient, red the least.
     The seven colors can have their hues, tones, and shades modified to produce any color possible.
     A mineralogical analysis of the material comprising the Pits revealed it to be pure and concentrated matrix mineral, with a near 100% efficiency in absorbing the color signal. Its natural color is gray. The clouds that are a nearly-constant feature of the weather in this region contain particles of matrix stone picked up in the form of dust. This explains the failure of Rainbow Brite’s powers there.

4. Usage

     The energy released from a color crystal will activate the color properties of any object it strikes. Once activated, the color is maintained by the signal from the Color Console. If the Console fails, the colors will fade, and if allowed to fade completely will require a new “initial activation”.
     Care should be taken to use the correctly colored crystal for specific objects. Failure to do so will result in bizarre and unnatural coloring. Objects can also have an additional color overlay, which is easily removed and does not affect the original coloring.
     Besides the ability to color, energy from Color Crystal can be used in other ways. Both the Color Console and the Color Belt can generate a solid rainbow for traveling, manipulating objects at a distance, or even for defense.
     The Prism worn by Krys uses Color Crystal energy to generate a variety of effects such as heat, cold, energy drain, and force beam.

5. Conclusion

     Color Crystal is an important natural resource, the source of color and vital for the physical, emotional, and mental health of all.
