Phoenix swung hard at the rogue bandit who had followed him up the ladder and onto the rampart at the side of the fort. The rogue ducked away just in time to the right to escape Phoenix’s sword. He had set the metal of the blade aflame shortly before the fray of bandits surrounded him then he had managed to break free and sent three of them bleeding and burning to the ground. “No!” He caught himself in his mind by that word. “I must not miss!” With the same swing he brought the sword flying back in another arc, this time downwards at an angle. The rogue did not last from the neck-wound he received. Six more, joined by another, scaled the wooden ladders onto the rampart in chase. Phoenix turned and headed down the rampart which lead to the roof of the innerkeep. He stopped, planted both legs on the boarded rooftop and turned. A bold bandit ran full speed ahead of the others into Phoenix’s kill-zone. Phoenix gave the fool a swift kick in the stomach sending him sprawling into the walls pointed tips. Five more came. A short one struck first and Phoenix blocked him with a thrust of his shield. A second one struck him across the hip. Phoenix was surprised by the pain and stumbled backwards onto a spot in the roof that creaked loudly. He was still standing and a glance at the gash in his side said; bleeding slowly. With no time another bandit wielding two daggers felt courageous and fully leapt into Phoenix, knocking him to the boards with a series of cracks. He lay flat on his back with a set of knees on his chest as well as a pair of daggers in front of his face. His sword was also extinguished. Having still held on to his weapons he narrowly escaped a dagger with a tilt of his head and then brought both sword and shield together into the dagger-wielding bandit's skull, cutting open his cheek and bruising his head. This gave Phoenix the chance to roll him over and sit on top. The boards of the roof cracked underneath the shifting weight and finally could hold no more and collaped beneath the two. They both landed amidst splinters on top of a table. The bandit absorbed the fall and wouldn't move afterward. |
