King Mac
-- by Leah_Cardaci

Position: King of Auren

When he was just sixteen, Mac saw his entire family murdered by invaders. Wounded and left for dead, Mac survived only due to a group of strangers to the land. Once he had recovered, Mac insisted on leaving the safety of the Isterans camp to rally Auren against the invaders. The leader of the group of strangers, Prince Ronauld, convinced his people to join the Auren defenders in the battle.

Mac spent the next five years in battle for the kingdom. During those years, he formed a close friendship with Ronauld. As the people of Auren had scattered and fought after the apparent total destruction of their royal family. It was a difficult task to rally them behind the established protectors.

During the war, Mac fell in love with the fiery Selena, one of the dragon riders that made it possible to attack the great ships that held the commanders of the invaders. Selena was skeptical of his intentions at first, but soon learned the unusual young man was earnestly affectionate. They were engaged more than a year before the war was over.

After the Waldron were defeated, Mac was crowned king, and married Selena. Always more of a warrior than a king, Mac ruled successfully due to his wise choice of royal council members. He chose only those Lords and Ladies that he knew personally. Each one has a personality and ability that leads to them being familiar with their post.

Mac and Selena ruled together for several happy years, having a son, Drake, and a daughter, Belinda. Sadly, Mac had not experienced his last tragedy; his wife and son were victims of the wide spread sickness called the Great Ill. For awhile it seemed that Belinda would soon follow, but the legendary suddenly appeared and used their excellent knowledge of herbal medicine to save her and countless other victims. Mac was exceedingly grateful to the Healers, although he now had only his daughter.

Despite the personal tragedies he has gone through, Mac still finds joy in the good things in his life. He is not overwhelmed by past misfortune or current duties, and occasionally leaves the kingdom in the able hands of the Royal Council while he enjoys a relaxing time with family and friends. Mac looks forward to his daughter, Belinda's, coronation so that he can finally fulfill his boyhood dream of exploring the dangerous Borderlands.
