SAFFRON WALDEN

Saffron Walden is a picturesque market town in NW Essex, England. It is a historical town which is noted in the Doomsday Book.

Its name is courtesy of the saffron crocus which also provided the town with it's early wealth.

The town boasts a renowned museum (with prehistoric and Egyptian artifacts), a castle dating back to the 12th century and one of the finest examples of a 'turf' maze in existence.

Oliver Cromwell is said to have stayed in the town during the civil war.
