Authoress note: I suppose this is kind of AU, it’s a what if fic, what if Alucard had gone with Richter and Maria after the castle had fallen.

Partnership

He was very still.

She couldn’t understand how a person could be so still and still be alive. That thought struck her as odd but then again maybe there was something to it, was he technically alive, she knew Vampires were dead and people were alive so what was someone who was a bit of both? It made her brain hurt and she shook herself to be rid of the thoughts and concentrate on what was happening in front of her. Richter gave her a strange look and seemed as if he was about to say something but movement from the glade caught their attention.

The deer roaming the glade did not notice when the dunpeal shifted his footing. The movement was silent and discreet. Richter smiled a little at his friends movement and tensed when the dunpeal did. Maria watched them both, Richter was a hunter, but he was a mortal hunter and he needed weapons to bring down any other creature especially one as large as a deer. Adrian however did not, he could do so with only his hands, Maria could understand why Richter seemed so engrossed. Again her attention was summoned by movement.

Adrian had moved and was striking, Maria had trouble following his movements, they were very fast and he seemed to blur around the edges as he ran forwards. Mist suddenly swallowed him but he did not stumble as the change swallowed him. Maria gasped as the mist cleared and a great white wolf bolted towards the heard of deer.

The kill was brutal; the doe screamed a horrific sound. Maria had never realised animals could sound like that. But the wolfs jaws closed on the neck cutting off the scream, and Maria fancied she heard the neck break despite the distance between them. Richter was muttering something that Maria couldn’t hear but it sounded horrified and amazed all at once. The mist swallowed the wolf who stood panting over his kill, and Adrian was left behind when it blew away, carried on the wind.

The dunpeal looked up at they approached and for a moment Maria could have sworn he looked smug and altogether to pleased with himself. She laughed at the expression and walked faster towards him, maybe having a true hunter with them would be beneficial after all.

Authoress note: a short drabble I’m afraid but I didn’t want to clear off for three and a bit months without leaving anything behind in my wake ^_^

My internet will be cut until September I’m afraid so updates will stop for a bit.
