Together

She was hiding.

She had not hid in years, since she had been a child and she was suddenly realising how difficult it was to hide without getting dirt on her skirts. A lady did not have dirt on her skirts, but then she was also quiet sure that ladies did not creep around the flowerbeds in order to spy on their husbands.

But then again she was also quiet sure Ladies did not marry vampires.

She had heard the stories when she was young, everyone had. Stories telling of how cruel he was, how bloodthirsty and merciless. She had been frightened, everyone had, but then she had met him and things had been different to the stories. But there were still days when she was surprised by just how different.

She was almost startled out of her hiding place by a shrill scream, but calmed as laughter followed it and the sound of water being thrown. More shouts followed and she crept closer still trying not to be seen. She watched them for a few moments trying not to laugh. Her husband had their son by his ankles over the fountain and was threatening to drop him in. Adrian was howling with laughter while struggling. Both were already soaked through and there was probably more water out of the fountain than what was left inside.

After a few moments of the game Adrian was let down and tore off over the garden followed by a few distinctive creatures that Lisa did not know the name off. Her husband watched his child flee and laughed.

“You can stop trying Lisa.” He said without turning around. Lisa smiled to herself and walked over to sit by the fountain with her husband,

“Just so you know.” She said “I wasn’t trying very hard.”

“Just so you know, I heard you when you opened the gate on the other side of the courtyard.” He smiled at her ad she felt her cheeks heat “then the boy here heard you when you walked past the north side fountain.”

“He did not.” She grumbled,

“Then the old lady down in the village heard you when …” he continued but was interrupted when she hurled water at him

Sod being a lady.
