ANTI-PSYCHOTICS |
Flupenthixol Decanoate (Depixol) This medicine belongs to a group called thioxanthene anti-psychotics and it also sometimes called a 'major tranquiliser'. Flupenthixol decanoate works by blocking a variety of receptors in the brain, in particular dopamine. Too much dopamine in the brain leads to over-stimulation of dopamine receptors which can cause psychotic illness. Flupenthixol decanoate works by blocking the receptors so that they do not become over-stimulated and thus helps control psychotic illness. Flupenthixol decanoate comes as an oily injection which releases the medicine slowly into the blood stream over a period of 2 to 4 weeks. It is given by depot (deep i.m.) injection in the buttock muscle. For more information follow the link below Flupenthixol Decanoate - netdoctor.co.uk |
