Arwen's Bio: Arwen, the evenstar of her people was born in the year 241 of the third age to Elrond Half-Elven and the lady Celebrian, daughter of Galadriel: the youngest of their three children.Little is known of Arwen's life before Aragorn entered it, but it is said that she spent several thousand years dividing her time between Lothlorien, with her grandparents, and Imladris (Rivendell), with her father Elrond-whom she was very close to.Her mother Celebrian, was abducted and tortured by Orcs and when even Elrond's skills as a healer could not restore the joy to her life, She sailed over sea in the year 2510.In Imladris,2951 Arwin was walking in the forests when she encountered a young man who called out to her by her ancestress' name. She answered prophetically perhaps that she was not Luthien. Luthien of course was the Elven Princess who gave up her immortality for love of a mortal man.And the mortal man to whom Arwen spoke these words would certainly help her fulfil the prophecy in her words: it was a young Aragorn who fell in love with her in that very first encounter.Almost thirty years later in Lothlorien, Arwen and Aragorn met again. She had not been as enchanted by their first encounter as he, but this time was different. He had grown up a great deal and she saw a strength and nobility in him that captured her heart.Arwen and Aragorn pledged their troth on a Midsummer's Eve on the hill of Cerin Amroth; the first step towards the agonising 'choice of Luthien'. That of choosing the man she loves over the immortal life of her people. When Aragorn was away from her first in his wanderings and later as a member of the Fellowship of the Ring Arwen watched over him in thought. After the war of the Ring and Aragorn's claiming of the thrones of Gondor and Arnor, Arwen and Aragorn were married in Minas Tirith on the day of Midsummer, and she became his Queen. The greatest sorrow she saw in her marriage was the parting of her elven family when they sailed over the sea.For a 100 years Aragorn and Arwen reigned, and their marriage was blessed by six children, five daughters and Eldarion-their son and heir. After Aragorn passed on she left Gondor and returned to Lothlorien and there she went to the hills of Cerin Amroth-where she and Aragorn had pledged their troth- and died.Arwen had made the ultimate sacrifice, her immortality for her love, and yet she dies alone. *The name 'Arwen' means 'noble maiden' in Elvish. |
