Chase 5

Female blue Chielath

Charnath and Chielath had arrived at the Cathiar Utopian none too soon. Scant hours after the dragon pair had arrived on Danach, Chielath decided to rise.
The blue dragoness woke, eyes whirling red. She thrashed her tail in irritation as her red bond looked on in confusion. Without a word to Charnath, the female blue dashed out of their cathair and winged her way down to the feeding grounds.
Time already? Charnath said to himself as he stepped out of the cathair.
Chielath just snarled at her male bond as her claws latched onto a ryanth. Taking down the huge animal, she plunged her head into the thick mane of fur around its neck.
Blood it, Chielath, or you won't be able to fly, Charnath reminded her.
Shut up, Charnath, I know what I'm doing! The blue snarled at her red bond. Nevertheless, she did latch her teeth onto the ryanth's throat, and quickly drained the body of blood. Charnath watched in surprise as his bond took down a second ryanth. He'd never seen his usually shy bond so...irate before.
He glared at the other males who had gathered around while the blue had been feeding. His eyes whirled red with irritation as he growled at them jealously.
After Chielath had finished her second meal, she looked up at the gathered males and spread her wings. Charnath flexed his own wings, and several of the other males did the same.
With a giant leap, the dark blue dragoness took off, roaring at her pursuers. Charnath was the first to take off, and he snarled at the other males who thought they could catch his bond!
Chielath ignored her suitors as she flew above them all. Two smaller dragons, both of them blues, soon gave up the chase and spiraled down to the ground. Chielath crowed at them victoriously, and Charnath watched them stand defeated on the ground with satisfaction.
After what seemed like hours in the air, Charnath felt his blue bond growing weaker as she ran out of energy. The flight would have to end soon, he knew.
Chielath knew this, too. She glanced behind her. Only three dragons still hung in the air. A brown dragon was in the back, with a large, sturdy blue. Her red bond Charnath was in the lead, as he had been all through the flight. Her head dipped down in indecision. Which one was most worthy of her?
The blue dragoness fell into a dive, and her male chasers followed. She skimmed just above the ground, before shooting back up into the clouds. The blue was not quick enough, and crashed into the ground in a flurry of limbs. Chielath giggled as she saw the tangled form of the blue. She hoped there would not be any permanent damage because of her.
Don't worry, he'll be fine. She was startled as a tail twined with her own, and a red neck wrapped around hers. Chielath crooned at the winner of her flight, none other than her own bond, Charnath. Of course, who else?
