1946 – After one failed attempt, Catherine eventually escapes by train to Austria. She travels to Salzburg and learns to beg for food. She obtains a “Pass Certificat” from the Roumanian Repatriation Committee, No.2642, dated 16th May. This provided her with Roumanian citizenship and she was advised to travel to Innsbruck to seek further help from the French Consulate. She is given secretarial work to do for the French Officers.
