Fleet Week - 7 October 2000

On the saturday of Fleet Week 2000 Steve arranged to take out a sailboat on the bay.  Robin and I, Selwa and Paul came along as crew for the day.
The bay was full of navy carriers, most having open days for family and friends of their crews.  We had the opportunity to sail up close to some of the ships.

Another carrier.

And another carrier.
Another carrier with San Francisco city as background.
We set off from the marina, under the bay bridge and out towards Alcatraz.  However, Alcatraz itself was out of bounds for the day so we sailed past and headed for Angel Island.
It was an early start.  Selwa was feeling the effects of the night before.

The Bay Bridge and some other larger boats, from our vantage point out towards Alcatraz.
The weather improved during the day from the early greyness.  However, it was reasonably choppy on the water and the boat listed quite significantly (but safely) with the wind.

Paul Steve and Selwa, enjoying the trip.
We all took turns at steering (Steve was in charge of the ropes and sails, with Selwa as a knowledgeable assistant).  Here I am getting a bit confused as to which way I need to point the rudder.
A bit cooler for myself, Selwa and Paul.  I am not significantly hunchbacked, I have my life jacket on under my fleece!

Paul and Selwa - those involved understand the circumstances!

Cathy and Robin - in romantic mood.

A view of San Francisco from the water.
