Due to the popularity of our Nov 1st., 2015 Society page. The Daily Prophet had record sales. The Daily Prophet along with the Malfoy family have agreed to do a Special Society Page Issue. All profits will go to St. Mungo's Children Center for Lethal Diseases. Today we will be interviewing the six Malfoy children. Most of the questions were collected from children at St. James Park, in Diagon Alley.
Prophet Report (PR): Hello Everyone. Would you please introduce yourselves? Tyl: I'm Tyl... Pyxis: Why do you always assume you should go first? Tyl: I'm the oldest and... Orion: Pyxis - Dad said not to fight. Pyxis: I'm not fighting. I'm simply asking a question. Tyl: Pyxis, you pick the order of introduction if it means that much to you. Pyxis: O.K., I go first, then Lynx, the twins... Carina / Cassie: We have names you know! Pyxis: (rolls his eyes) Me, Lynx, Carina, Cassie, Orion then you, Tyl. I'm Pyxis Malfoy. I'm 10 years old. I play chaser on the junior quidditch league. I scored the most goals last year. Cassie: (hugs Tyl) Tyl has the league record for most goals. (Pyxis sneers at Cassie.) Lynx: I'm Lynx Malfoy. I'll be 8 years old on the 13th. I practice quidditch all the time with dad. I'm going to be a seeker next year. (big grin) Carina: I'm Carina Malfoy. I'm 5 years old. I'll be 6 on Valentines Day. Cassie: I'm Cassie Malfoy, and I'm 5 almost 6 years old. Orion: I'm Orion Malfoy. I'm 11 years old. I'm a first year at Hogwarts. I'm a chaser for my house team. In our first game we beat Ravenclaw 200 to 150. Ravenclaw got the snitch but Tyl and I got 180 points together. Oh, I'm in Slythin house. Tyl: I'm Tyl Malfoy. I'll be 13 years old in a week. I'm a second year at Hogwarts.
PR: Let's get the unpleasant questions out of the way first. Is it true that a house-elf takes your spankings for you? Lynx: I wish that was true. (most of the children laugh) Tyl: When we misbehave, we get punished.
PR: Do rich children get spankings? Pyxis: Punishment is a very personal question. Orion: Dad, Grandfather, and Grandpa are always saying that. Cassie: They get really mad if you ask how someone was punished. (whispers) The portraits by daddy's study will tell you sometimes. Tyl: Do you have a number of questions about punishment?
PR: Yes. Tyl: All right. We aren't going to answer anymore of them. It's no ones business. Lynx: (whispers) Tyl's has had more trips to dad's study, grandfather's study, and the broom shed at the Burrow that all of us together. Tyl: Next non-punishment question.
PR: How much do you get for an allowance? Cassie: Only 2 galleons*. The boys get more. Carina: Only 2 galleons a week. The boys gets lots more. Pyxis: We get more because we do more. Lynx: Daddy and Grandfather buy you everything you want you don't need money. Orion: The amount we get is based on what we do. The better your school grades are the more money you get. In the summer Pyxis, Tyl, and I have to work in the Malfoy offices eight hours a week. We can work more if we want and we'd get more money for that. |
Lynx: I worked at the Offices too. Pyxis: We're talking about REAL work, Lynx. Lynx: I filed all the new contracts yesterday! Orion: Oh, sorry Lynx. Dad didn't make any of us work there until we were 9. Lynx: Dad, didn't make me. I like working there. I'm going to run the Offices in Spain after I finish Hogwarts. Tyl: The girls get 20 galleons a week. 18 goes into each of their Gringotts vaults, and they get 2 to spend. Dad has it all worked out: under 9 you get 10% of your allowance to freely spend 90% goes into your vault, 9-11 it's 20% spend / 80% to the vault, every couple of years you get to spend more and less goes into the vault. When you want to spend money from your vault you have to discuss it with dad. Orion: Normally, I will get 8. Tyl will get 12. Pyxis will get 8 and Lynx would get 3. But with Lynx working in the offices he's likely getting more.
PR: Do your grandparents live with you? Carina: No, Grandfather and Grandmother live in Toddington Manor. Pyxis: Grandfather and Grandmother Malfoy used to live in the Manor with us. They moved to Toddington Manor three years ago, but we're allowed over there anytime. Cassie: Daddy, says once you're eight you can floo to Toddington or Grandpa and Grandma at the Burrow. Lynx: Pyxis floos straight from school to Toddington almost everyday. Orion: I don't blame him. Grandfather only works until 2:00 pm now. Most of us go over to Toddington two or three times a week during school holidays. His potions lab there is great, and he loves showing us how to brew. Tyl: It makes Potions Class at Hogwarts boring. Grandfather has already taught Orion and I, Potions through 4th year. Pyxis, what year potions has Grandfather taught you? Pyxis: I'm at 4th year, but we are doing a lot of other things. He said that going from 4th to 5th year potions is a big steps. I only go to Toddington Monday thru Thursday and only until 5:00pm. I go there to do my homework in peace and quite. Lynx: Grandfather lets Pyxis use his study. Pyxis: I do my homework while, Grandfather finishes he paperwork.
PR: Why did your Grandparents move to Toddington? Tyl: It was just time I think. Toddington Manor needed work and it was easier for Grandmother to do living there. Grandpa and Grandma Weasley liked the idea. The Manor is half way in between Toddington Manor and The Burrow.
PR: Are you close to your grandparents? Cassie: Pyxis almost lives at Grandfather's. Tyl: We're very close to all of our grandparents. We visit them at least once a week. Orion: We normally spend every other weekend at Toddington Manor. Grandpa and Grandma Weasley have over 30 grandchildren. Grandma says the more the merrier and she would watch all her grandchildren at once. But mum doesn't want her to have more than 7. Carina: We stay at the Burrow more now that Tyl and Orion are at school. Orion: (laughs) I'm sure Pyxis is happy about that! Pyxis: I love visiting grandpa and grandma, but I don't like spending the night at the Burrow. Lynx: He doesn't like sharing a room with me. Tyl: He doesn't like sharing a room with anyone. Orion: There are eight boys in my dorm. You better get use to sharing a room. Pyxis: Grandfather said that he would pay for a private room for me. Tyl: Mom's not going to agree with that. Pyxis: And when did that stop grandfather? Orion: You know Pyxis it wouldn't hurt to be a little more personable. Pyxis: I am. I just need my own space to sleep in. Orion: We're ready for the next question. |

PR: What's it like living in a house so big? Pyxis: It's great. We have our own bed chambers which have a bathroom, bedroom, dressing room, and sitting room. Carina: The manor has four wings. We live in the East. Cassie: We're not to go in the others without an adult. Lynx: Grandfather and Grandmother still have a lot of there things in the Southern wing. Pyxis: They stay there on Christmas Eve, so they can be with us Christmas morning. That's where they use to live. Orion: There is always something to do in the manor. We have an indoor pool, a large playroom, the lake, an outdoor playground, tree houses, the girls have a small castle, and we have horses. And of course our brooms to ride. Tyl: There are some rooms in our wing that we aren't allowed in without mum or dad. But other then that as long as we take a house elf with us and tell mum where we're going we're free to roam. Lynx: You have to be 6 to ride your broom by yourself, but a house elf has to be with you. Pyxis: Mum's over protective, there's always an house elf watching over us.
PR: Do you have brooms, what types, and how old were you when you got them?
|
Orion: The junior quidditch league only lets you use junior racing brooms. Only the Comet and Cleansweep companies make them. I think we were all 4 when we got are junior brooms. At 10, we get an adult racing broom. (The boys nod.) Tyl and I have custom made brooms from the American Sonic company. They're called Mach-2. The twins (The girls sneer at him) Cassie and Carina own brooms called Princess Racers. Cassie: Mine is violet, with jewels. Carina: Mine is a fuchsia, with jewels. Lynx: Their brooms are slow. Cassie: I love my broom. I like to fly but not that fast. I don't like racing or quidditch. Carina: I don't like quidditch either. Lynx: I own a Junior Cleansweep 15. But when I'm 10, I'm going to get the fast broom available. Pyxis: I just got a Nimbus 2020. It's the best. But I still have to use my Junior Comet in the Junior league. Tyl: You have to be 6 to ride your junior broom without an adult. And you can ride your racing brooms without an adult after dad feels you can handle it. Pyxis, how many weeks did you have to fly with dad before he let you fly alone? Pyxis: It was only one week, but.... Grandfather flew with me everyday. So, I think it was quicker then you and Orion. Tyl: Wish, grandfather was half retired when I was ten. Anyway, you can only fly on the Manor grounds and an house elf has to be with us.

PR: Do you always get what you want for your birthday and Christmas? Tyl: No, I asked for a racing broom when a was 4 and I don't get it. Plus, mum is always worried about us becoming spoiled so she makes dad limit what he gets us. Carina: Every birthday and Christmas, we have to pick a couple of gifts and give them to poor children. Cassie: She lets us unwrap them, but before we play with any of them we have to pick. Lynx: We get to decide which group to give them too. Pyxis: It does feel good to give the toys away. Orion: Our rich friends and Grandmother think that doing this must be hard for us, but it isn't any more. We have more toys then we could ever play with. It's best that these toys go to use somewhere. We also clean out our playroom and bed chambers before our birthday and Christmas. We select a number of toys that we no longer play with. The house elves clean them up and there are given to a charity or the children's hospital.
PR: Do you give a lot of things to Charities? Orion: Yes, we give a lot of things and we do a number of fund raisers too. Mum doesn't like waste, she says. It's wasteful to just through out clothes, toys, or other things that can be used by others. Pyxis: Mum and Grandmother have different ideas about things. I remember them discussing taking our old things to a second hand store. Grandmother said that wasn't something that people of our standing would ever do. Mum hated to see dress robes that had only been worn a couple of times not be used again. Orion: So, mum come up with this new Charity Event that is done in August. It's a large resale event held at the Hogsmeade carnival. Many aristocratic families bring the clothes their children have out grown and other things. All the money made goes to a different Charity each year. Lynx: Dad and Grandfather get a good laugh from this event. Grandfather said that mum has given the aristocratic women something else to brag about. "Who's children's clothing looks that best after being used."
PR:
Do you have a big birthday parties every year? PR:
Do you get to go to a lot of parties? Pyxis: We only have to go to the children parties now. And make an appearance at any party that Mum and Dad or Grandfather and Grandmother have. Carina: Mum and Grandma have a lot of tea parties. Cassie: Carina and I get to go to most of them. The boys only come in to be introduced. We get to dress-up for the tea parties it’s so much fun. Lynx: I try to go with daddy to the office on
days Mummy and/or Grandmother are having tea parties.
I don’t like…. Orion: (whisper) Lynx remember what dad
said. Lynx: OH!
I don’t like tea parties. Tyl: We have to go to the adult parties once we are 16. PR: Do any of you already have arranged marriages? All: Malfoys marry for love. Tyl: There hasn’t been an arranged marriage in the Malfoy family in over 500 years. Pyxis: Dad and Grandfather were beside themselves for weeks after Carina and Cassie were born. They were getting letters asking for one or both of the girls hands in marriage by the dozens. They sent everyone how asked a howler. I thought that Grandmother would have scolded them for being rude, but she didn’t. Orion: That’s because Grandmother said everyone in high society know that Malfoys marry for love and it was very rude from them to ask. PR: Is it true that you are
so poorly behaved that you’ve never been able to keep a Nanny for longer
the two months? Orion: It’s true that we’ve never had a
Nanny other than a house elf nanny for longer than three months.
But it has little to due with our behavior. Pyxis: Our parents haven’t even tried to
hire a nanny in five years. It’s
something that Dad does every time mum has a baby to help her.
After a couple of months, mum, grandmother, grandma, grandfather,
or dad gets tired of having them around. Orion: Nanny's always put their two sickles in. Mum wants to raise us. She doesn't want a nanny too. She would rather have family members watch. Tyl: We have been known to play tricks on our nannies. Fred and George Weasley are our uncles you know. (Laughter)
PR: What’s it like having so many brothers and sisters? Tyl: Noisy (Laughter) Tyl: It’s great.
There is always someone to fight with and play with. Carina: I miss Tyl and Orion when they’re at
school. They read to me when
daddy has to work late. Cassie: No one picks on us at the park when they are around. (whispers) When it storms, and we have a sitter, Tyl lets all five of us sleep in his room. He makes a house elf bring Orion’s bed into his room. They put the two beds together and there’s room for everyone. Orion: Every time we fight dad tells us a
story about what it was like to be an only child.
I’m glad I’m from a large family. Pyxis: I really like it too. (Tyl and Orion
gasp.) Oh, stop it you two. It’s
great being with grandfather a lot but it’s much more fun in his potions
lab when you two are there. Tyl / Orion: We love you too, PY! |
PR: Who’s your dad’s favorite, your mom’s favorite, your grandma’s favorite, grandmother’s favorite, grandpa’s favorite, and grandfather’s favorite? Orion: Everyone is always asking that, because they want to see if we are jealous of each other I guess. But there is very little jealously, because there is so much love. Our parents and grandparents just seem to know who needs attention and when. We all get some one on one time with each of our parents. Tyl: Pyxis and grandfather have a special relationship. As do Dad and Lynx, mum and Carina, and grandmother and Cassie. Orion: But Tyl and I have a special relationship too. Grandma says we’re as close as Uncle George and Uncle Fred. We each have someone we are very close too. Pyxis: That doesn’t mean that grandfather loves me anymore than he loves any of his other grandchildren. There have been times he did something with Lynx, Carina, Cassie, Tyl, or Orion instead of me. Orion: The same goes for our parents and grandmother. I think grandmother talks about Tyl the most. But than again Tyl and Cassie look just like her. Tyl: Lynx has been going to the office with dad since he was potty trained. (whispers) Dad was never into taking nappy bottom kids to the office. (normal tune) Even though 95% of the time the rest of us turn him down, he still asks us if we want to go too.
PR: What’s the best and the worst thing about being rich? Pyxis: The best thing is that you don't have to wear other peoples old clothes and the house elves are there to serve you. The worst thing is that you don't know if other children like you because of who you are or what you can get for them. Lynx: The best thing is that Dad can take me to work with him because he's the boss. The worst is that Daddy has to work a lot and go to a lot of parties with Mummy. I'd like to see Daddy more. Carina: The best is that I get pretty new dresses all the time. I get to go to tea parties. The worst is that Grandmother and Mummy go to a lot of parties without me. Cassie: The best is that Daddy and Grandfather can buy me what ever I want. The worst is that they work alot. Orion: The best is that I have the best broom in the world. The worst is that we all have to go to dance, music, and French lessons. Plus etiquette lessons from Grandmother. Tyl: The best things in my life have little to
do with being rich. But the worst things revolve around it. I
find it funny that people talk about our behavior. I'm always being
reminded that my behavior in public must befit my station. My
appearance and manners must be prefect or punishment will follow my return
to the manor. Orion: I don't know if the Sorting Hat story is a good example Ty. You're the first person who was able to get it out of the Headmaster's office. It's a very special magical item. Pyxis: Grandfather wouldn't say it to your face but he and dad thought it was BLOODY BRILLIANT! Lynx: Ingenious! that's what it was. Pyxis: Uncle Fred and George said it was the most exceptionally imaginative thing ever done at Hogwarts. "We knew he had some of our genes!" They said. Grandpa and all our Uncles laughed. But of course Grandma and Mum give them an earful. Saying that you were lucky not to be thrown out of school. What's your next question?
PR: How do you feel about
your Grandfather and father being Death…. Tyl: (angry) Don’t you finish that.
(He calls for a house elf.)
Misty take Pyxis and the younger children to my mother.
Tell my father that we will be ready for tea in ten minutes. Pyxis: I’m staying Tyl. I understand what’s going on and I want to speak for grandfather. Lynx: I want to stay too.
Daddy was never one of them. Orion: I say we let Pyxis stay but Lynx is still to young. Lynx: I’ll tell daddy what we’re talking
about in here, if you make me leave.
You won’t get your ten minutes.
He told you to call off the interview if a question like that was
asked. Tyl: Misty, take Lynx and the girls to
my mother or father. (The house elf and younger children leave.) Tyl: Has you heard I was to call off the
interview if you asked that. Understand,
Lynx will inform my father so our time is very limited. Orion: First our father was never a death
eater. He did help death
eaters enter Hogwarts. He had
to, the Dark Lord would have killed our Grandmother if he had not.
After the night of Dumbledore’s faked death, father fled to rescue
grandmother and both become members of the Order of the Phoenix. Tyl: We are very proud to call these two men
our Father and Grandfather. Pyxis: That goes for me too. I don’t know what type of man my grandfather use to be, but today he is a great man. I know that my maternal grandparents don’t get a long very well with my paternal grandparents, but I have heard grandpa and grandma both say that Lucius Malfoy is not the same man he was 20 years ago. I judge my grandfather on the man he is…. At the point, Mr. Draco Malfoy came into the room. With only a look to his sons, the boys nod their heads and left the room. I was told that a question of this type would put an end to the interview. It’s why it was asked last. So, I'm not surprised that Mr. Malfoy has an house elf show me out. Talking to the Malfoy children was very enlighten. When reading my first draft the proof readers stated they were surprised that Orion did the talking and Tyl let Pyxis push him around. If you have that impression let me set things straight. Tyl was very much the leader of the group. He showed it quit clearly when I asked the Death Eater question. He let the other children take the lead on unimportant issues. Orion did do most of the talking, but Tyl has appointed the position of spokesman to him. The children are fresh air in the world of Pure-blooded aristocrats. Their manners, appearance, and command of the language is every thing that you would expect of aristocrats. While they also show love and caring for each other, I have never seen in aristocratic families. |
