MUSE LIVE...
supported by Hundred Reasons...
date: 10th november 2001
venue: doncaster dome
'Side Show Bob!' an aMUSEd punter cries... Hundred Reasons have entered the stage and big haired Colin has all the zest of a frog on a pogo stick. The excited cry of "and this one's called 'Remus'" sends the audience alight much to the joy of the energetic band. And this is how they continue for the rest of their set. Tuneless? Yes. Boring? No. The amazed spectators forget support band ignorance and turn moshing into an olympic sport.

So how did Muse follow that? More twisted emotion and further guitar abuse perhaps? ...Well... yes. From the opening insanity of Hundred Reasons, Muse create claustrophobic heartbreak as Matt introduces his new best friend, the megaphone.

Crashing through grand moments of both class albums it was a wonder Mr Bellamy and his boys hadn't fallen over with exhaustion. The audience seemed to want to surrender as the overwhelming emotion, words and riffs swept over like a tsunami... Poetic, exaggerated and maybe pretentious but that also appears to be the persona of Bellamy in a nutshell.

Muse have become a one man band: Matt and the other two. It's not about the deep and meaningful lyrics anymore. It's not about the throbbing rhythm. It's about the emotion and energy one little guy can hold over a hall-full of people. Sure, all this power can go to one's head but you have to admit, it must be difficult to be modest about such talent.

So if you've got it, flaunt it. As we noticed during the Nina Simone cover 'Feeling Good', as well as 'Muscle Museum', 'Plug-In Baby' and new track 'Dead Star'. There's no need for me to write the set-list. Muse's (that is, the three of them combined) effort into each and every song was repayed by the astounded audience's hysterical screaming. The band fed off the appreciation.
