                     SUNE ROSE WAGNER,
                                           THE RAVEONETTES...
So it's quite a nice day to say it's the end of November, and I'm in Leeds. Mmmm, shopping...  There only seems to be one person stopping me from spending an obscene amount of cash on nothing in particular. Tour restlessness and smudged eyeliner want to talk.
Here we go...
24th November 2003, Leeds Met Uni
How are you?
Good!

You're currently supporting The Cooper Temple Clause- how's that going?
Absolutely swell. It's nice and stimulating, and it's a great experience for us all.

Do you get nervous before shows?
No. Not at all. We've been on the road for 14 months. We played a lot of shows so we don't really get nervous.

OK. So do you find that TCTC fans are also fans of The Raveonettes or-
No.

Not at all?
It doesn't seem like it. We're hoping, but... *trails off*

The Concept of 'Whip it On' is described as "black and white pulp noir" whereas 'Chain Gang of Love', the new album, is described as "technicolour". Would this then suggest that it's a natural progression in sound, or was it planned?
Nothing is really planned, it just happens. It was just because 'Whip it On' was in a minor key and the new record is in a major key so it just sounds different. You know, they're really recorded in the same way- same kinda songs. Just sounds different, which is nice.

Where do you go from being "Technicolour major key"? What does the future hold?
Well that's the good thing: we don't know! We don't want to know about the future do we? *laughs for what seems like forever...*

So like you said, it wasn't deliberate, but the sonical restrictions that were on 'Whip it On' were that it had to be in Bb minor, and be three chords in under three mintues, right?
Yes. It is the same for the new album, but it's in major key- that is the only difference.

Is it a psychological thing, do you reckon, that it sounds so much more low and down when it's in a minor key as opposed to a major key?
That's how it is with minor keys. That's the sonic aspect of it. It's a sad key, though a major key can be really sad too.

Will you represent the change of mood through lighting and photography?
Well, we've always aimed for that, though the motorbike for the new album gives it more... speed!

Is the sound of The Raveonettes appreciated back home?
It is very much appreciated, yeah. I think they really like us: they nominated us for all kinds of awards and stuff. We have to go back and do an awards show in a couple of days and so I think now they're catching on with The Raveonettes.

Are there any artists that The Raveonettes would like to collaborate with?
Mmm, I dunno, man... Not really!

You're too good?
Yeah, well you know it's hard when you're the best. We don't wanna downgrade ourselves!

Having two vocalists, do you find  that the attention is more equally divided?
No- I think Sharin (who has disappeared) gets a lot more attention than I do because she's blonde and tall. People like that. It sucks.

You should try wearing a dress...
I have tried everything, believe me! It does not work.

There's a special Christmas track on the other side of your new single, 'Heartbreak Stroll': do you like Christmas?
I do, yeah. I love Christmas and its songs. I think they're great- nostalgic and wonderful. I love Christmas, you know, I love snow, Christmas lights, all the food, meeting up with the family, getting drunk, opening presents. I'm all for that, baby!

After this tour with TCTC, what's next on The Raveonettes agenda?
Well we have to go back to The States and do another silly tour! Nah, it's just... you know, we just want to go home and eat some good food and do some drugs and drink a lot. And have some time off, not all this plane craziness. I mean, let's face it- how many times can you play the same f*cking song, you know what I mean? If people don't get it, they don't get i! That's my point.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Absolutely not!
