SIXTEEN
" What is it you want to see me about?" Nakai asks coolly as he studies the back of the man standing before him. The wind is blowing strongly, whipping his hair against his cheeks till it hurts.

Takuya's shoulders are taut with heavily suppressed anger as he toed the edge of the rooftop. The wind is blowing hard against him, threatening to push him off the edge any minute. Unseen by Nakai, Takuya is biting his lips hard as his reason tries to fights his contempt.

" Why won't you let me see Goro? Why?!" Nakai demands brusquely. He could not have forgotten the magnitude of Takuya's anger so it can only be concluded that he has chosen to ignore. He held his breath as Takuya turns slowly to face him. The pair of glittering orbs under the pair of sharply arched eyebrows intimidated Nakai a little but he showed none of his fear.

" Perhaps you have no grippings of how much I hate you." Takuya said with deliberate slowness.

" I can't, because I don't know what has become of Goro till I see him." Nakai replies calmly.

Suddenly Takuya starts to laugh, his laughter loud and long and cold. His eyes flashed with cold anger as he glanced briefly at Nakai's pale face. " You are really cold and unfeeling, aren't you?" Ignoring the angry stare Nakai is administering at him, Takuya continued calmly. " You really meant for Goro to take the rap for you that night, didn't you?

" You probably meant to antagonise those people but unfortunately that night, you met your match. But lucky for you, my brother is there to suffer for you!"

Seeing that Nakai is remaining speechless, Takuya presses on coldly. Unknown to him, Nakai can no longer hear him. If he had been more vigilant, Takuya would had noticed the change on Nakai's face. But arrogance had marred his judgement of the person standing before him and he did not realised his error till Nakai jumped at him. Takuya loses his balance and vaulted off the concrete edge.

" Stop chastising me!" Nakai bellowed as Takuya struggles to steady his grip on the large metal piping running slightly below the edge of the wall. " Why doesn't anyone believe me when I say I never meant to hurt Goro! Why?!"

Takuya gritted his teeth as his fingers keep slipping so he left Nakai to carry on the monologue.

" Goro is the only one who did not chastise me at all. He came to me each time and comforted me. He understands me so well, he is my soulmate!"

" Yet.....you left....him.....to....be....attacked.....you co...coward!" Takuya hollered angrily through shaking gritted teeth.

" I...I...." Nakai stammers but he did not argue further.

At that instant, something significant struck Takuya but he is too busy fighting for his survival to think it through. His arm is shaking from exertion and the over stretching of his neck muscles is making it difficult to breathe.

" Nichan ~"

Takuya is almost convinced that he is hallucinating. Still the soft gentle voice calling him gladden his heart for a fleeting moment. Caught off guard his fingers loosen and the sickening thought that he is about to kill or maim himself from this fall ran through his mind.

" Nichan ~"

This time a hand accompanied the soft voice. Takuya looked up in surprise as cold fingers closed around his wrist. The flushed face of Goro surprised him so much that his fingers slipped totally off the piping and would have fallen if not for Goro's fingers holding him up.

" Goro ~ what did you call me?" He mutters incorherently, letting his whole body hang in mid air with no support except for Goro's weak grip.

Goro did not answer him. He is too intented on rescuing his brother who is now one deadweight in his hand. Turning to Nakai, he implored for help. " Nakai, help ~"

For a brief moment, scenes from that miserable night in his life came back to him. He had seen Nakai hiding in a dark corner watching while he was attacked. Past vision and present reality criss crossed and Goro became confused. " Help!" He mutters but  he did not relax his grip on Takuya's wrist. Still the "apparition" before him did not come forward to help him.

" Goro! Let go!" Takuya orders when he realised that Goro is dragged gradually over the edge by his weight. " Let go! Save yourself!"

" Noo!" Goro cries in a mournful howl as his upper torso is dragged inch by inch into mid air.

" Let go!" Takuya insists sadly as he tries to wriggle his wrist out of Goro's grasp. But no matter how hard he tries, Goro's grip is surprisingly strong. " Goro, I am your brother! You must obey me!"

To his horror, he felt his body falling and Goro is still holding onto his wrist, falling after him. This realisation is even scarier than the prospect of his own death. His  mouth dropped apart to utter a protest when he felt his falling body jolted to a sudden stop. Letting out a badly suppressed breath, he looked up and sees Nakai holding onto Goro's other arm.

Both brothers did not make another sound as they watch Nakai struggles beyond his ability to save them. Takuya's feet sought to find a foothold against the smooth building wall. Just as he was about to give up hope, he felt himself inching up.

" Save my brother ~" He hears Goro implore softly. Takuya's brotherly instincts heard dejection in Goro's voice and looked up in disbelief. When Nakai's hand is near enough to touch him, he was too stunned to react.

The gentle smile on Goro's face did not help matters either. Takuya's instincts are on red alert and he could read his brother's mind. " No! Save Goro first!" Takuya hears himself yelled out.

Nakai looked from Takuya to Goro in confusion. His arms are shaking and his over stretched muscles are aching but he held onto the each of them with sheer willpower.

" Goro, you cannot leave me all alone in this world!" Takuya starts to cry when he realised what Goro is doing. He looked in horror as Goro's hand slips slowly out of Nakai's grip.

" Save my brother ~" Goro requests softly again. His eyes widen with the grief of a man who knows his end is near and a sad smile adorns his trembling lips.

" Don't make me!" Nakai snaps as his tears began to roll silently down his cheeks but still he refuses to let go of either one of them.

" You....owe....me ~" Goro whispers sadly. Shock made Nakai loosen his grip of Goro's wrist and obligation made him let go completely. Takuya's loud screams of horror did not change his mind the slightest.

With both hands free, Nakai could pull Takuya up and back to safety. The relief of feeling solid ground under him again did not last very long, Takuya peered fearfully over the edge before falling back onto his back again, visibly shaken. His eyes wide and diluted, and his mouth fallen apart at an awkward angle. In stark contrast, Nakai's  face is occupied with a comforted smile, and the faraway look in his eyes looked almost blissful.
