12.
" Today is the last day of your batsu, you must be feeling really happy?" I mention the fact casually, careful not to look at him, burying my nose in the newspaper.
" I guess so." He mutters softly without much conviction.
" You don't sound sure." I remark cheekily, stealing a sidelong glance at him. He is biting his lower lip as he considers the matter. " Don't tell me you are actually enjoying being my cook, butler and chauffeur the entire time?"
" Well, I had a great time. He argues weakly. " It wasn't much like a batsu. Rather felt like role play."
My eyes widen in wonder as I stare at his unhappy face. " You must be kidding!"
" Well, think about it. Because of it, I get to stay overnight at your place almost everyday, and we get to see each other like everyday. And Verdi and Chopin had each other for companionship."
" Why are you so happy that we get to see each other so often?" I ask in a moment of denseness. " It's not like we just fallen in love or something." I continue to say half jokingly. The moment the words came out of my mouth, I saw his body stiffens and the air between us froze.
I tried giggling to dispel the awkwardness between us but he would not cooperate and instead his body remained unnaturally stiff. The only thing I could do is look out of the window and hope that the moment will pass soon.
" Don't ever joke about things like this again." He chided abruptly. My heart felt a stab of pain not simply because he had just told me off but because he had never ever used that tone with me before.
" I will!" I replied sharply in defiance to the angry tears welling up in my eyes. |
