16.
“ Meeeew! Meeeew!”
“ Sorry, Chopin! I forgot to give you breakfast!” I holler as I ran around the house trying to get ready for work. My furry pet is at my feet dashing around with me.
“ Just give me a second and I’ll feed you!” I promise.
“ Meeew!”
In my haste to answer the knockings on my door, I nearly step on the tiny furry body. “ Sorry! Sorry!”
“ Who’s that?” I greeted as I yank the door open. “ Eh?”
Standing outside my door is the one person I would not expect to see. My jaw drop open in surprise and I gawk at my visitor openly.
“ Can I come in?”
“ Huh? Oh sure. Sure!”
As she walks in, she surveys the surroundings with a critical eye. Chopin hissed at her unexpectedly but she did not flinch a bit. Without saying a word, she plops down on the couch.
“ You didn’t expect me here, did you?” She sneers lightly.
“ What is the purpose of your visit?” I ask without hesitation after sitting down next to her.
Suddenly her icy front broke down and before me sits an ordinary woman rather than a celebrity. Somehow I could not bring myself to like her but I am prepared to hear her out.
“ I came because of one person.”
“ Why?”
Unexpectedly she broke into a sad smile and her large eyes appeal to me. “ We are just normal friends.” I add before I can stop myself.
“ Do you really believe that you and him are just normal friends?” She asks calmly. I lost my tongue but the stubborn streak in me made me nod my head. “ You really think so?”
“ What is your point?” I insist.
“ Eversince he met you, he changed a lot.
“ He is always rushing off after filming, always “missing” after work.”
I frown lightly but refrain from saying anything since I sense that the fireworks would be at the end of this show.
“ Two weeks ago, he suddenly became very subdued.” She continues to relate but her voice is getting slightly agitated.
“ Why are you telling me all this?” I taunt cruelly.
“ Because the only reason he is so down is because of you.”
Much to her chagrin, I burst out laughing. I saw her pursing her lips in disgust but that did not deter me one bit. “ You gotta be kidding! I am just a mere friend, I don’t have the power to manipulate his moods!”
“ You still believe that you are just a good friend to him?” She questions.
“ I am cynical.” I reply simply. “ I believe we are friends then we are nothing but just friends.”
“ You won’t think so when you see the state he is in now.” She insists.
“ Is this necessary?” I ask annoyed. “ Why don’t you just tell me what you really hope to achieve by coming here today?”
For a moment the air in the room froze. I felt triumphant when I saw her stiffened. Then she regains her composure and shrugs her shoulders.
“ I guess it finally has come to that.” She mutters bafflingly. Then she smiles again. “I want you out of his life.”
“ You want me to break off our friendship?” I ask nonchalantly.
“ You are not a friend to him!” She shrieks abruptly at me, thrusting her face in mine.
“ I think it is time for you to go.” I decide firmly.
Surprisingly my visitor got up from her seat obediently and made for the door without a word of protest. Chopin is at the doorway to hiss at her again. “ Verdi hisses at me each and every time he sees me too!” She laughs bitterly before walking out of the door I held open. |
