His Batman: the Dark Knight Returns is often called the greatest comic book story EVER. Some people talk smack about the sequel to that, called the Dark Knight Strikes Again, but I think it's just as good, maybe better...he makes some strong statments about the government and society, which is one of the big reasons I like him. Cause he's not only Brilliant, but also Relevent. And then there's his SIN CITY storys. These are pulp crime tales, in brilliant black and white. These are some of the best I've ever read too...I promise if you read the first SIN CITY book, it's self titled, you'll be HOOKED....and then there's robocop, lance blastoff, stuff he's done with Geof Darrow (hard boiled, Big Guy & Rusty), a classic run on Dardevil....he has alot of really really good work out there, that's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
