Chapter 1:
(Page 3)
“I do wonder chancellor, but not–“

”And do you not have the most expertise on Isla Sorna and the inhabitants on it not to mention actual fossil knowledge?”

“I’ve seen them from as dead as dirt to alive and trying to ea–“

”Chairman, I propose that these hearings be delayed pending an investigation of the true nature of the animals that inhabit the islands or firm evidence of their safety–or lack their of. I propose an expedition be sent out to ascertain the true nature of these islands.”

Silence filled the room as the Chairman thought to him self and then spoke aloud.

“The list of Chancellors will be read, all in favor of postponing the hearings say ‘Aye,’ all not in favor say ‘Nay.’”

Alan walked over to his chair next to John Hilman. He sat down nervously. John leaned towards him.

“Good job. We’ll handle it from here.”
“M&M’s or Skittles,” Alan pondered, staring at the vending machine. It had been three hours and Alan was starting to get hungry. He was stuck in the United Nations cafeteria with only a few dollars: not enough to get anything of real interest. He tried to insert the dollar.
The machine started to whirr, but spit the dollar back out.

     “I hate machines.”

“It’s settled then,” John Hilman exclaimed entering the cafeteria.

“What is,” Alan questioned him, holding his crumpled, rejected dollar in hand.

“The UN has granted me three weeks to set up an expedition to the islands. It has nominated you as being in charge of the teams.”

John took the dollar, rubbed it against the machine’s corner, and reinserted it.

“You will be able to set up the teams from people we choose and you will finally be able to study the animals in their natural habitat! Isn’t that great?”

There was a moment of silence, then John spoke again.

“M&M’s? You strike me as an M&M’s person.”

Alan stood there speechless, nodded, then bent down to pick up his M&M’s, mumbling something to himself.

     “What was that, Alan?”

“I said,” Alan looked up, ripping the bag of M&M’s open and starting to walk away, “you’re going with me.”
