Jonathan Berger's Poetry: Poem of the Day

Where to find 'more'
Drinking with you as I have for three months now,
ninety days of experimentation through inebriation,
drinking with you so many things in so many places for so many hours,
drinking with you has become a way of life.

I have been pissing a river
of wasted time
tasted limes aplenty
far too many to recount.
After thirteen weeks of explorations into assignations
I've found I can only rely on relations here,
at the bar
or the booth
for the truth is,
smart as you seem,
perceptive as your green eyes appear,
you only see me as hot when you're toasted.

So for three months now, I've seen you soused
spotted you smashed
glimpsed your gulps
observed you inebriated…
For three months now I've looked at you lap up liquor bottle after liquor bottle
and will continue to watch you while away the wine
for as long as it takes – three more months – or six – or sixteen or sixty…
until you break down and
blind as you may be,
finally see me.
