THE RETURN

The ring collects no dust
in its case
as it waits
to be removed and returned
to its rightful place.

The nightshirt -- you know
the one you always 'wore'
rests in the middle drawer
patiently planning
its return
to my floor.

Your plant, though, died.
But that couldn't be helped.
It just couldn't wait any longer.
