the arcade fire: funeral | 2004 | ****1/2 there is a reason why pitch fork ranked funeral the top album of 2004. modest mouse: the fruit that ate itself | 1997 | *** not far off from their most recent album, and not close either, the fruit that ate itself takes the form of modest mouse music in a rawer.  as always it has great rifts and drum beats backed by clever yet simple lyrics.  the only draw back i can't help but notice is how simple and catchy it can be at times.
