State wide STAND DOWN 1999
Friday I drove down to the Stand down in Rocky Hill. It was 58 miles away and as I traveled I remember why I love the open country. When I got there and signed in as a volunteer I was asked to walk around the medical area (PTSD, Substance abuse Etc.). I was asked because I was the only Combat Veteran who was a Chaplain there. As I walked around and talked to any Veteran who wanted to talk after I said Hi. I talked to quite a few, but when I started to talk to one whom was a FMF Corpsmen I started to hug him and thank him. I started to cry remembering when I did call out for him for other Marines. You see as MARINES we learned to call out his name in combat when hit. We also hoped that we never had to. As I talked to each one I told them I would pray that they would not have to be here next year. I also asked them to never give up as there but for the grace of God go you and I. I told them that I had walked in their shoes both in war and back at home. I ask all of you that if you see or know a needy Veteran Please do what you can for them. I do 365 days a year I'm always calling my local radios talk show asking for donations for our needy veterans. Let me make it clear that we have too many Veterans in need as one is too many in my eyes. God and I love you.
