Keeter says; "Let's Keep it Going!"

My last term as Deputy Chief with the Chapleau Cree First Nation exposed me and the CCFN Council to many interesting and challenging situations. I believe that as a Council, we met each and every one with some measure of success.
However, there’s still much more to do!

Better than anything, my actions tell you who I am, and what I stand for. I’m committed to the Chapleau Cree, and to the deep values that keep us strong.

Change requires broad support. Your vote gives me that support.

.

Why Me? As a councillor, I worked long and hard with the others to bring us to where we are today. I want to continue that work, and to improve on the good things we’ve done so far. I'm not afraid to speak my mind. I seek the advice of others in the community, particularly our elders who have only hope for our people. I expect that we work, and I am fair.
I'm available. I spend time at Fox Lake regular basis. I know the community; the issues, and I am interested in a future for our people. I want harmony, and I will work towards that goal.

For the record, here’s what I see as important...

Number 1: Land

More than anything, Our Right to Land is most important. When all else is gone, our land will still be here. We must take care with it. We must be wise as we plan the future.

I will encourage, and I will fight to ensure that we always work with wisdom in all that we do.

We need a strong and wise group of people to work in our interest, both on and off this reserve. We have to collect those people together to build the future.

I will work to regain and safeguard our land.

Number 2: Our Culture

Who are we without our culture or our history? Who are we when we no longer practice those activities and ceremonies that make us unique? Our sweats, our right to hunt, our capability to share. Our language.

We must care for and encourage our youth and honour our Elders. We must regain and hold all of this close in our hearts, and earnestly maintain and proudly practice our traditions. Doing this will bring and keep us together.

It’s not enough to do these things only when we have funding. We must both willingly and continually foster our history and our future as aboriginal people, just because it is important. I promise you that I will both promote our culture and practice our traditions and encourage others to do the same.

I’m committed to the Chapleau Cree, and to the deep values that keep us strong.

Number 3: Economic Development and Good Business Practice

It rounds out the vision. We've made a good start this past term. We have solid policy in place. We have a sound leadership selection code. We put in place a responsible administrative group. There's still more to do, but we have a good start. We can now move forward. Good leadership can do this. Expect no less from your Council.

We must create opportunity. We must manage money and business responsibly. We must seek and strengthen alliances with our neighbours, and within our Treaty Area. We have our land, we have our people, we have and can grow skills.

Its time for real action. We can create real employment and jobs. Not with grandiose schemes, but in little, smart steps. One job at a time. Our future depends on wise thinking when it comes to economic development.

I will work to bring people together, and put that thinking into place.
