This is an enormous task given to each club. Each club should have a membership director and this individual is given the task of coming up with new ways to entice people to join their clubs. This is one of, if not the, toughest job that a club executive can bestow on a member. This member has been given the task of recruiting members so that the club will be able to hold on to it’s charter. But you must remember this very important fact : this job is not only yours , but, that of the whole club. You can’t be expected to do this on your own because if you do then chances are you will want to quit before the year is out. You are required to have a minimum of 15 members to charter a club. The membership directors job is to come up with ways to get new people to join and ways to keep old members interested enough to stay. This can be a thankless job as it is never easy to please all the people all the time. Each individual is unique in their own way, just as keeping them interested is. If it was an easy job then their would be no need to have one. We, as an association, are in a membership crisis. The number of members has been on a steady decline for the past few years and shows no signs of stopping. we have got to turn that around. If we are to continue being a successful association, then we have got to come up with ways to get new members or at the very least, find out why the old ones are leaving. We know that we can’t do the impossible overnight, but it would be a welcome change to see the numbers going up for awhile instead of the steady decline we have all been witness to. People have a tendancy to have a short attention span when the same old things keep happening day in and day out, and when this is apparent, you have got to spark more interest if you want things to happen. We need new blood in this organization because, with new blood, comes new ideas. And new ideas are what keep the juices flowing. This will spark more interest and that, in turn, will keep the membership up. No new idea should be dismissed without fully investigating the pros and the cons. If it doesn’t look like a viable project at first, put it on the back burner, until such time as you think it will possible work. Remember, each project has it’s time and place in the community. Interact with other clubs and you could very well find something that they have that would work in your area and visa versa. We have a large contingency of minds in this association, so why not try and tap some of them for ways to keep your membership intact or even increase your numbers. Who knows , you could recruit enough new members to start another club. Wouldn’t that be a feather in your cap. REMEMBER…………… WITHOUT MEMBERS WE HAVE NO ASSOCIATION AND WITHOUT THE ASSOCIATION WE HAVE NOTHING!!! SO LET’S ALL PUT OUR HEADS TOGETHER AND SEE WHAT WE CAN COME UP WITH. GOOD LUCK.!!!
