Learning our history.
Theology
Theology
Concepts
[Note:
The theology in this web site reflects the "metropolis"
theology of 16th century Tenochtitlan as opposed to the village
theology practiced outside the city at that time. ]
- We have one Creator, Ometeotl (the All Sacred Duality).
- Our Creator is not a human.
- Ometeotl is the Self-Created Creator called Moyocoyatzin.
- Ometeotl is the Giver of Life, called Ipalnemohuani
- Ometeotl is manifest in all the prime dualities: Life/Death;
Chaos/Order; Day/Night; Masculine/Feminine, Time/Space, etc
- Ometoetl is manifest in the Universe, the Material of the
Universe, the One and True Body of Ometeotl
- Ometeotl is the Spirit that animates the Material Body; and is
the Material Body that is animated by the Spirit.
- And as such, both the Sacred Body and Spirit of Ometeotl are
one, united (e.g. E=MC 2; Energy is the same as Matter, just in
a different form)
- We are a part of Nature; nature is our extended skin. Nature
is the Sacred Body of Ometeotl, animated by the Sacred Spirit.
- We are participants in Creation, though only a tiny part. We
are collaborators with the Creator. Just look at the works that
our Aztec, Zapotec, Maya etc peoples created and the beauty that
they cultivated.
- We did not have gods: those are the uncountable
"faces" of Ometeotl manifested in the Universe., just
as we play different roles: father, mother, child, co-worker,
sibling, etc.
- We have a sacred calendar of 260 days a year, and a civil
calendar of 365 days. The calendar is not to be used for
superstitious purposes, like Tarot cards.
- Our Theology is not based on "belief" as much as it
a Theology of Acknowledgement; we use our senses to acknowledge
the wonder that we participate in and are allowed to live in. We
do not sit around "believing" in things which cannot
be determined.
- There is an order to the Universe. Astronomy was encouraged to
understand that order and harmonize our lives with it. From the
Olmec to the Aztecs and the Maya, Time and Space is a cosmic
stage upon which our lives particpate.
- Rituals are done to honor Ometeotl, and this honor is not done
out of superstition. When honoring the manifestations of
Ometeotl, we are not "worshipping gods".
- Defending our people is Sacred, it is honrable. It is the
courageous thing to do.
- We must strive to be humble and fiercely courageous, like our
ancestors.
- Human sacrifice did nothing to save our people in 1521.
However, there is nothing more noble than to
"sacrifice" ourselves in the service of our people and
Creator.
- The moral force of our people should exemplify what it means
to be Indigenous.
- Our actions must first be worthy; then our "spirituality:
will follow. We do not have passive "spirituality".
That is a European concept. We must earn our
"Spirituality."
We do not have "Spirituality" like Europeans. We do
not amputate the Sacred Body of our Father/Mother [Ometeotl]
from the Sacred Spirit. They are one and inseparable. It is sacrilegious
to separate them.
- There are Four Sacred Directions, and Four Sacred Colors
assigned to each direction. Each direction and each color
signifies something specific.
- We as humans are metaphors of the universe air as breath,
blood as water, fire as heart)
Poetry is the highest form of communicating with the Divine, and
allows us to "stumble onto" the truth.
- Science is not opposed to our Sacred Theology. On the
contrary, it is a part of it, as the Maya demonstrated.
- We must show respect for our people. We must give allow them
their dignity.
Life is sacred. Yet Life requires Death (such as when we eat
fruits and meat to survive). Death is sacred. Death requires
Life.
- We must be careful of allowing prophecies to make us
superstitious, like Motecuzhoma.
- We are called to be warriors. Warriors are sacred when they
are performing courageous actions. War was sacred for us, unlike
Europe, where people were killed just for the sake of killing.
For more Anahuac Theology, I highly recommend visiting the Mexica
Movement Theology Page and contacting them for more information
after that.
