Heart Matters Chapter Nine:

"Of course I love her."

"Well, then you want to give her what she wants?" Hank continued asking the "right" questions.

"Of course. What’s best for her… and Aaron."

"Don’t you think Aaron should know?" Hank suggested.

"He’s four." Jeff retorted.

"And I’m twenty-eight. What’s that got to do with the price of eggs in China?"

"All I’m saying is he won’t understand." Jeff defended himself.

"It’ll hurt more if he grows up not knowing." Hank pointed out.

"Maybe."

"Just think about it."

Ginger took a deep breath before knocking on the Metcalf’s front door. She knew Jeff was going to slam the door in her face.

"Hello." Jeff answered the door, surprised to see Ginger.

"Jeff can we talk?" Her voice was choked up.

"I thought you never wanted to speak to me again." He turned and walked into the house.

"I know." She followed him, "I was up late last night, someone knocked some sense into me, and I think we need to talk. I want to know my son." She admitted.

"If you want to know him, why did you give him up?" Jeff challenged.

"I was scared."

"Too scared to even want to know your own baby?"

"I was a baby having a baby!" She cried.

"I’m two years younger than you, and I managed to keep him." Jeff reminded Ginger.

"You had your whole family behind you. I had no one. Do you know how much that hurts?" She demanded from him, "I have no one!" She repeated.

His face softened when he was the look of regret, betrayal, hurt, and loneliness in her eyes. "Ginger." He whispered.

"You have no idea what it’s like. The only time I’ve ever felt complete was when I was with you." She admitted, sobbing.
