James Paul McCartney was born on June 18, 1942. The world didn't know what an impact he would make! Paul holds the world record for the largest paid concert audience. He also wrote the song Yesterday for the Beatles which has been played over 6 million times on radio stations and is the most popular song ever! Paul met John in 1957 at a church picnic. Paul joined John's group which was calle the Quarrymen. In time, the Quarrymen turned into the Beatles and Paul switched to playing Bass. By 1964, Beatlemania had not only spread through Britian, but it had reached the United States! Soon the Beatles became the most popular band in the world! On March 12, 1969 Paul married Linda Eastman. Around this time, Paul had to fend off rumors that he had actually died years before. Some people believed that there were hints in certain Beatle songs meaning that Paul was actually dead. These people believed that "Paul" wasn't actually Paul but an imposter! Due to many disagreements in the Beatles, Paul was quite tense and this "Paul is Dead" situation wasn't helping. Paul released a solo album in 1970 titled "McCartney". In a magazine in 1970, Paul stated that he was no longer with the Beatles. Although many people thought that the Beatles would be breaking up, this news came to fans as a shock! The other Beatles were very angry with Paul for breaking this news all of a sudden and without them. In 1971, Paul formed the band Wings with his wife Linda, Denny Laine, and Denny Seiwell. Later, Henry McCulloch was added to play guitar. Paul's theme for the James Bond Movie, Live and Let Die, was a commercial success. It sold over 3 million copies. After the success of Live and Let Die, Paul added Jeff McCulloch and Geoff Britton to the group. Paul and Linda were also proponent animal rights activists and vegetarians. In 1980, as Wings was going to tour in Japan, Paul was arrested at the Japanese border for posession of marajuana. He was in prison for 10 days. Afterwards, he had to leave the country and the tour was canceled. After John's death in 1980, Paul decided not to go on a planned Wings tour. Wings member Laine left the band and Wings broke up. In 1994, Paul, George, and Ringo started recording "Real Love" and "Free as a Bird". On March 10, 1997 Paul was officially knighted. On March 15, 1999 Paul was officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On December 14, 1999 Paul played at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. |
