He married Sarah, daughter of Levi and Nellie Fox, on 22 October 1829, "both of Norwich. Witnesses: Levi Fox, Asahel Oatman, Sr." In 1851, Nellie Fox, aged 80, widow of Levi, was living with her daughter Sarah and son-in-law Asahel. They were farmers and of the Baptist faith.
