Ruben Oatman (369)

Ruben Oatman (369) Genealogy Ruben (Asahel, Benjamin, George, John, Johannes), son of Asahel and Sarah (Parker) Oatman, was born in Cooperstown, Otsego County, New York, 13 July 1817, and died 5 February 1905, Mayville, Tuscola County, Michigan.

Ruben was living with his brother, Asahel Oatman, Jr., and his family in 1851 in South Norwich, Oxford County, Ontario. Sometime after that, he married Rachel Ingalls; in 1860 and 1880 they were living in Greenwood, St. Clair County, Michigan. Rachel was 17 at the time, born ca 1843 in Canada.

Information is sparse about the children. James was reported to have moved to Toledo, Ohio. In the 1870 census is listed a male Oatman (first name illegible), age 26, born in Canada, a barber by occupation, living with Bellamy Ranger from Canada, age 30, in the First Ward of Toledo. The birth date for this Oatman would have been 1846, much too old to be Rachel's son, unless Ruben was married earlier to another wife. The rest of the children have not been traced.

Children of Ruben and Rachel (Ingalls) Oatman:

1347 Wilburn, b. ca 1859, MI. There is no mention of Wilburn in the 1860 census, where Nathan is listed as a year old. Apparently Wilburn was born after 1860 and/or died very young.

1348 Nathan, b. ca 1859, MI (one year old in 1860 census). Said to have moved to Ashtabula Co., OH

1349 James, b. ca 1865, MI; said to have moved to Toledo, OH

1350 Martin, b. ca 1868, MI; said to have moved to Chicago, IL

1351 Ruben, b. ca 1875, MI

1352 Archie, b. ca 1878, MI; said to have moved to St. Paul, MN
