Delos W. Oatman (411)

Delos (Truman, Benjamin, George, John, Johannes), son of Truman and Orra (Perry) Oatman, was born ca 1820 in Jefferson County, New York, and died in Oxford County, Ontario, probably in South Norwich Township or Springford where he had resided. He married Autha ____, who was born ca 1825 in Ontario.

Delos moved to South Norwich Township, where he was married and his children were born. According to the 1851 census of Ontario, he was a shoemaker, but sometime after that, he became one of a rapid succession of proprietors of the Exchange Hotel in Springford in 1857. In 1878 he sold the hotel to Thomas McMehan, who converted it into a private dwelling.

Delos and Autha were members of the First Regular Baptist Church of Christ in Norwich. Autha was evidently excluded from the church at one time, as in-dicated in the list of church members, where her name is followed by "Ex."

Children of Delos W. and Autha Oatman:

1460 Alonzo, b. 1851

1461 Marshall, b. 1859; m. Jessie Pace

1462 Eugenia, b. ca 1866/67 (per 1871 census)
